Connie is poorly again

When I went to the piggies when I got home from work, I noticed straight away that Connie is poorly again :( She was fine this morning. She is lethargic again and not walking properly. I noticed a few days ago that she was squeaking a little when going to the toilet so have been giving her Cranberry Juice. I rang the vets at 5.20pm (they close at 6.00pm) and she said I could take her in ASAP if I was worried about her. She has had a steroid injection and the vet is going to get her some Seprin hopefully for tomorrow as she is fine on Baytril and then poorly again a few weeks after finishing the course. I gave her a bowl of veggies away from Eliza as when Connie is poorly, she eats slower than usual. I have now shut them up for the night and will check on them later when I give them their snugglesafe. Healing vibes for Connie please xx

Oh no! Poor Connie! What a worry for you. I hope the vet is able to get you some septrin for tomorrow. I'm going through a similar thing at the moment with Rosie so know how you feel. Is the vet going to give her a long course of septrin?
 
Claire, I'm so sorry - this wee girlie has given you so much worry. Certainly I'll be sending healing vibes to her, and a hug to you.

I'm not sure yet but I hope so. She just looks so poorly again :( Aww, whats wrong with Rosie?

Yes she has. The vet even called her a troublesome little thing :) Luckily, both vets at the practice are dealing with her so when one isn't there, the other one takes over.
 
I really hope Connie starts to pick up on the Septrin.

Rosie was crying when peeing a few weeks ago, so off we went to see Simon, the vet. He removed a urethral stone while we were there and put her on septrin. She started to look much better very quickly, but within a few days of finishing the antibiotics she started crying again. We had the choice of putting her on a longer course of Septrin or going for the Zithromax instead. She's now been on Zithromax for a couple of weeks and she seems really well now, but obviously we need to see whether she remains well when she comes off the antibiotics. What a worry our little furry friends are.

Aww hugs to Rosie and you. If you don't mind me asking, how did Simon find the stone?
 
He found the stone by feel and managed to gently manipulate it out. Poor Rosie cried a lot as he did it, but it eventually appeared. He was concerned that maybe there was a larger stone somewhere and that that had just broken away from it, but he can't detect anything else at the moment. He has said that if she starts to have problems again when she finishes the antibiotic, then he will xray.
 
Poor little Connie

I do hope Connie improves again, making real strides towards health after new treatment. I feel for her and for you, worrying about her as well. Healing vibes to her and sympathy to you!
 
It seems to be one step forward two steps back with poor old Connie! Bless her. I hope the Septrin does the trick.
 
Update

The vet rang me to say that a chemist has ordered the Septrin in but it will be a day or two until it arrives. She is on Baytril until then just so she is getting some meds inside her. Will she be ok changing from Baytril to Septrin also, can it upset her tummy like Baytril can? x

Septrin is better tolerated than Baytril. Intolerance and side-effects of Baytril is pretty common (but not often spoken of); intolerance and side-effects of Septrin are much less common; it is a lot gentler on the tummy. I think you should be fine just switching meds i.e. one dose Baytril then next dose starting the Septrin. as far as I know, it is only NSAIDs that need a time lapse between different ones.
 
Sorry Claire, only just got to read the thread about Connie, she really is going through it poor little thing. Hope the septrin works for her. Keep us posted. Sending healing vibes to her.x>>x>>x>>
 
Hopefully, the Septrin will come in tomorrow. She's still the same but still has a big appetite. It took her well over a week to recover the last time and that was on the Baytil. She just walks around wobbly and with her head down :( The problem is that Eliza was bullying her this morning :( Is it normal for a cage mate to bully a poorly pig? I have given them 2 bowls to try and sort out the squabbling.
 
I'm sorry Connie's ill again Claire :( I can only speak from experience regarding ill cagemates & their healthy companions. I had a trio, one became ill & the other 2 did indeed shun her to the point i had to bring her in. I can only think that in the wild an ill piggy would draw attention to the herd therefore they shun it/push it away - no idea if this is right or not but it makes sense in my head. I hope she starts to improve soon & Eliza leaves her be :)
