Recently one of our guineas has been chasing and trying to hump the other. This evening it has gotten to the point of when one steps foot out the other he is chased around the cage and humped. He's been sat in his bed most the evening so I've taken the steps to separate the cage into two.

They are both male and around 6 to 7months old

They both have 2.5 x 2 c&c panels at the moment. What is the best course of action now? Should we leave it the night and remove the partition tomorrow?

Thanks for any suggestions.

They are at the age when hormones kick in. If there is no actual aggression you are best leaving them together to sort themselves out. It should settle down eventually. Keep an eye on the weight of the one being humped just to ensure he is getting enough to eat and is not unduly stressed.

The one being humped did start to get annoyed and started teeth chattering and at one point lunged forward a bit at the other. The other one ran off for a bit but was soon back! He couldn't even lie down to sleep for more than 5 minutes without him coming over. Would you suggest I take down the partition and keep an eye on them?
