I have two indoor male guineas, been together since they were 6 weeks old and are now 3 years old. One is tri-colour coronet named Lilo and the other is a black and white rex, Moose. Lilo has recently started shrieking and the top of his lungs at random times of the day and night. Moose seems completly un-nerved by him but does chime in at the usual feeding times. I am concerned for Lilo as I have no idea why he is doing it. They always have water, fresh veg everyday and guinea pig crunch, hay, exercise and they are handled regularly. There doesnt seem to be a specific time, just random times such as 1am or 6am and throughout the day. As you can imagine the 1am wake up call is driving me insane and I worry about my neighbors. Does anyone have any suggestions as I dont want to give them up! :'(

He is the more dominant of the two and gets very jealous when I stroke Moose, so i imagine that is the attention thing as they are both in perfect health. thank u for your reply... piccies on the way! :smitten:

welcome to the forum, I'm not sure either, one of mine constantly wheeks for veg, or when she hears me waking up :)

Welcome :)
Maybe just give him a health check over, looking especially for scurf on his skin, any more itching than usual and any missing hair? Also, watch if it happens when he is having a wee as if he has a urinary tract infection or bladder stone, he will screech when he passes water as it hurts them. If it is more a wheek wheek like they do when its food time, hopefully he is just being extra noisy and it will settle down :)

Hi and Welcome,

I agree with LJ he could be wheeking like that because he is in pain. A check up should illiminate any problems.

Hope he is ok,

Louise
