Hi guys, I have 2 boys , my dominant boy is constantly mounting his cage mate, to the point his cage mate now won’t come out when his brother is actively roaming the cage, this normally happens every month or so, the dominant boy seems to get very excited and constantly mounts his brother and chases him around the cage. I normally desperate for around 24hours or so until he has calmed down , I separate with just 2 grids down the centre of the cage so they can still see and smell each other. They was separated this Thursday evening when Willis the dominant boar was constantly mounting his brother and chasing him, I’ve tried twice now to reintroduce them both and he’s just going straight for him and mounting him, today ive had them together for a few hours to see how things went. Willis mounted for a little while but then calmed down, but I noticed he was purposley putting his cage mate nto a corner and sleeping right next to him, as if he was guarding him. I’ve seperated them again because Willis wont leave him alone the mounting is just constant. Has anyone got any tips? I would hate to seperate permenatly and as I said this isn’t the first time but they’re normally back to normal after around 24hours. It isn’t usually this long. Thanks , sorry for the long post

I am just wondering, could it be because you keep separating them? That’s not a criticism, I totally understand the reasons why you’d want to separate, but I just wonder whether it is causing him to feel the need to reassert his dominance?
How old are they?
What does your submissive pig do during all this mounting?
What size cage are they in? A pair of Boars generally need more room than a pair of sows would. I originally had my boys in a 2x4 c&c cage and there were quite a few face off’s between them ( with my submissive pig backing down so nothing ever got serious but I could see a bit of tension going on) so I extended them to a 4x4 c&c cage and now they very rarely bicker.

My boys are in a 2x7 cage it is very large and it’s only them two. When he mounts him my submissive pig cries out and squeals. I want to keep them together when it happens but my submissive pig has recently recovered from a back injury which my vet things was due to the constant mouting so I’m a little worried about keeping them together when this happens
