Well... One of my guinea pigs has been from a pet store. She's about 2 years old.
I have diagnosed her several times, she has had an upper respiratory infection, eye infections, she is riddled with cysts and now she is constantly squealing while defecating and urinating.
It's a low pitched squealing, the type of squealing to say they're in pain. This is going on and on.
I have taken her to the vets, they checked her over and said there's nothing they can do about it. They have checked her stomach for a blockage or a bladder stone, nothing.
I have seen spots of patches of faded blood but it's never in her urine or poo.
She gets daily vegetables and plenty of Timothy and Alfafa hay.
Anything else I could do?

I am very sorry! Have you at least got painkillers from your vets? Have they checked her womb and her kidneys for stones?

He only felt around her stomach/abdomen area for a few seconds and said it wasn't a stone, but I really wanted an xray done to check for stones, they refused it. And I haven't received painkillers from the vets. Although she had an antibiotic injection for her respiratory infection but my mother took her vets, I'm the only one that can do something about her health.

you may want to try buy some painkillers for her, ask your vet for some and they should give you them x

Has your vet considered a urinary tract infection?

Are you able to see your vet again? do you know the name of the antibiotic she is on for the respiratory infection?

No, i wasn't with her at the time of the injection but I know he injected through her anus end. But yes I am able to see the vet again. All that I would say to him is she might need painkillers or to see if she has a urinary tract infection.

Hope the vet agrees. If possible please could you update your location on your profile? it helps us advise on products etc which differ from country to country. If you are a minor just the country is fine.

Lara as you are in Leicester I suggest you try to get her to see Craig Hunt at Chine House, check our vet locator above for full details :)

I'll see what I can do. I usually go Matthews in Syston. Too expensive for Greg's Vets in Thurmaston.

Craig is a specialist Exotic vet, I would suggest you try & get an ultrasound done at the very least & maybe x rays. Guinea pigs are not cheap pets sadly, when things go wrong they are very expensive to get well again, I've spent £3,000 on just one piggy over 3 1/2 years :( However sometimes it is more economical to go straight to a piggy savvy vet rather than waste money on several visits to one that doesn't know a lot about them :(

My pig Sam has been in pain for over a week, same symptoms, squeaking while he pees etc and I was told he has very inflamed bladder.Maybe yours has the same.Ask your vet for an X-ray and go from there. She might have a UTI.

Yes it got me thinking she has one, I'll post an update soon when I get her to the vets. Thanks.

Hi
I hope the lil piggy is feeling better! I'm having a similar problem with my sow

It sounds like you're vet is not an experienced exotics vet so does not have the expertise of an expert. A lot of vets have not go a clue on guineas and ailments, coming from experience.
