One of my pigs has almost continually overgrown teeth. He went to the vets to have them rasped, front and back ones, and now they are just as bad as before. He's 6 years old and I can't see it being fair to him to constantly being knocked out to have them sorted.
He has access to constant hay, plenty of things to knaw on etc but nothing seems to work!
Has any one else found this, especially in an older guinea pig?
Thanks

I am tagging our dental expert, who runs a sanctuary for guinea pigs with dental problems, for you. @furryfriends (TEAS)

It depends on what is at the bottom of the dental problem; some can be sorted with several rounds of careful burring, others, who are causes by misalignment, may need lifelong regular treatment. Dental problems can become more pronounced with age as older piggies can sometimes not chew quite as well.

Please make sure that you syringe feed any guinea pig that is struggling to eat. Our syringe feeding guide also contains a chapter on care for dental guinea pigs. Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Often this can be ongoing I currently have a boar at the sanctuary who needs two weekly dentals. However, our vet is able to carry out the dental work without the need for GA, so it takes just 10 minutes, every couple of weeks, to give him good life quality. How long is it since he last had them done?
