Normally I would be recommending Imaverol dips but in this case I think you should speak to the vet as she is already poorly and I would not bath or dip her until she is well. Also she is outside isn't she? so I think she would struggle to get warm again after a bath or dip. See what the vet thinks when you see them. Are you going tomorrow?
 
I can't go tomorrow; already missed a lot of college practical exams and my mum won't take her. I think I'm going to have to wait until Thursday unless I skive college and take her early Tuesday morning. Probably will do that.
 
Can you not ask someone else to take her other than your parent's? You can't really take your time taking guinea's to the vet because they can deteriorate so fast.
 
There's no one else. Mum and Dad won't, my friend is at college, grandparents are away on holiday. I would go tomorrow but I won't pass my course without doing these practical assignments.

And if she is going to be pts; I want to be there. I don't want anyone else to sign the form and make the decision except me.
 
I really would try &get her to a vets ASAP. As Kerrie says could you ask somebody else to take her. Even if u write down all the questions you want answered for them to the vet. Would a friend or neighbour take her in for u?
I can understand u not wanting to miss exams. Must be difficult for you.
Try printing out this thread for the vet to see maybe too. Helen is very knowledgeable on fungal treatments ask if the bathing could be done or if the vet thinks she is not well enough to be bathed yet. Bit of a catch 22 for u- :(

Oh see u posted just as I was writing my reply. If she is puting on weigt this is a good sign. Think I would try a few other suggestions before considering pts. If its fungal its treatable with good prognosis on the majority occasions. Keep your chin up. Big hug for u- xx
 
Thank you. Honestly, I'm being serious, there really is no one else to take her to the vet tomorrow. The only way I can do it is to see if my exam is in the afternoon; if it is, go first and do the exam as quickly as I possibly can. However, the two exams I have to tomorrow are first aid and setting up accommodations.

I can go on Tuesdsy morning as I don't have any exams. There's no other time tomorrow I can do it unless I speak to my tutor in the morning and get out after the first air exam.

Cookie is regaining weight and becoming more active today so I think we can hang in there until Tuesday. It's so slow weight gain but better than nothing. If I could get her in tomorrow I would; I'm going to try :(
 
There are a few members on here from Bristol, would you be happy for one of them to take her to the vet for you if one of them was able?

I'm sorry, I really really am, but I don't feel comfortable with that. I'd prefer to be there if Cookie needs to go.

However, emailing my tutors now to ask if I can go out at lunch to take her to the vets

how did she get on if she went today? or Good luck if she's going tomorrow.

I've just got off the phone with the vet - I'm waiting for a call back from the vet this evening to discuss what to do next for Cookie.

She's maintaining her weight, although she's not putting any weight on. She's getting more active and eating lots and lots! However, she's still having problems with her fur; it's still all greasy and things like that. Her poos have been a little bit stringly and slightly smaller than normal; but this happened last time on the medicine she's getting.

Depending on what the vet says when I get a call back; we'll arrange an appointment over th phone.

I didn't get to take my exams this morning. I had a mental breakdown due to the stress of cookie being sick, parents, my work.. And I got some bad news myself. I recently had a cancer scan; it's not cancer but it's rheumatoid arthritis instead. Hard blow and I've been struggling to move from knees down. College sent me home at about lunchtime because I was in no state to even attempt the exam.

I'm sorry things are bad at the moment.

When the vet calls, ask them about fungal and what treatment they recommend bearing in mind she is already poorly and lives outside. It may be possible for her to have on oral fungal medication such as Itrafungol or Nystatin if the vet does agree that that is what is going on.
 
The vet just called - she asked about taking ultrasound images, which is going to cost at least £110. I'm going to have to raise the funds somehow. She needs at least two images taken to determine what the lump is. I'm not sure mum will be happy, so I'm going to have to save up to fund it.

She's happy to let Cookie be at the moment until I make a decision - I need to keep her on the medicine; monitor her weight and endure she isn't loosing. The vet said she's not getting any worse so she doesn't need to me seen again unless she gets worse.

I asked about her fur and she thinks the grease gland is overproducing while Cookie is sick; she told me to try to not bath her too often; only when it gets particularly bad.
 
At least you've found out what's going on now. Didn't you say they do a payment plan? Very sorry to hear about your health :( *hugs*
 
I could really use some advice now.

So I can either pay for the ultrasound, money I simply don't have right now. The vet will not let me pay it off in a payment plan and parents will not lend me the money.

Or I can wait it out and see. The vet seems reasonably happy that Cookie isn't in any pain, since she's still active and gaining weight. She suggested that I can wait it out and continue her on the medicine, bathing her when needed. If she declined further, considering surgery.

I don't know what to do. I'm really worried about putting her through to the x Rays, firstly because of the money but due to the stress to her. And what if it's even worse? What if she needs surgery and dies on the table! It's so high risk and id rather not put her through surgery at this point.

I'm thinking to just wait it out linger and try and get her to gain weight. The most I can do is to put her out in her run as much as possible as she eats the most there; she's responding really well to grass so I'm thinking giving her a lot of that and a lot of her favourite veggies to help her gain the weight. Any veggies you know about to help her gain more weight?

I guess I just need some reassurance I'm doing the right thing. If I see any signs that she's in pain, or her quality of life is declining; then I'm prepared to do whatever I have to. I just..want to know what you think, I feel so lost and confused and just..it's painful,
 
I don't know...the vet said the x-rays aren't needed right now, so I don't have to decide immediately.

I'm going to try and help Cookie gain some weight: offer her more grass, top her up with critical care and then mashed pellets since she's maintaining her own weight fine; just not able to place anymore on.

I'm thinking about having the x-rays done. It'll give me a answer then.
 
I am sorry your piggy is so poorly :( Please be careful regarding grass time; grass is at it's richest in Spring & too much can cause piggies to get bloat. Grass time should be restricted for about half an hour at the moment. Up her pellets & hand feed her by using a 1ml syringe with the end cut off & filed down smooth. Either very soft pellets or Critical Care. I hope she picks up a bit soon x
 
Yes they are fine, just use some boiling water to soften them to a paste, leave to cool then use the syringe as I described. I have pics if you need to see them x
Ok the green ones are feeding syringes in my pic, cut the end off, file smooth & remove any rubber bungs. The bowl shows the right consistency. Use the uncut syringes for water but only syringe a small amount at a time (Maybe 0.2ml) x
