She keeps crying as though in pain, and then retching her body forward in a lunging motion as though she is going to vomit, but she doesnt voimt.

I've also noticed her underneath is very wet and soaked in urine.

See video

forgot to mention, she ate some breakfast today and has just eaten some cucumber so doesnt seem to be TOTALLY off her food

I can't view the video as I'm at work, but I don't think that matters.

First of all, a guinea pig's digestive system is different to ours and as such it only moves in one direction - they are physically unable to vomit. What you've described (like I say, I haven't been able to watch the video) sounds like "heaving hiccups". There are a number of reasons why guinea pigs do this, one theory is that some food has "gone down the wrong hole". This can ultimately lead to pneumonia (infection in the lung).

Being urine soaked can happen for a number of reasons. The first is a urinary infection, other causes usually stem from some other form of illness or discomfort, which makes them reluctant to move about, hence they just urinate where they're sitting.

I would strongly advise you to seek veterinary attention today, even if it's just a chat with a vet on the phone. If you're unsure how to contact your vet on a Sunday, you may find the advice in this link helpful - your vet will have a full 24hr emergency service http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?90842-How-to-contact-a-vet-out-of-hours

Having viewed the video, I agree with Amanda and strongly suggest that you seek veterinary advise today. She looks like she could be struggling to poo / pee but it is hurting her to do so which could be due to a UTI. Of course, I could be wrong http://www.guinealynx.info/uti.html

Your piggy doesn't seem very active in the video which could be a sign of discomfort.

Get to the vet asap. Looks similar to our twinkle some months ago and she was diagnosed with cystitis and was in some pain but it could be some other UTI which still needs urgent vet treatment. I agree with Claire W that the inactivity is hiding illness.

Cookie went to the vet yesterday morning and has had a pain killer and is now on anti bi otics. She has had an x-ray which revealed a garden pea sized lump in her bladder, suspected bladder stone. No wonder the poor little thing was crying. She is having it taken out on thursday morning and hopefully all will go well, her sister, biscuit, and us will be gutter other wise.

thanks for comments.

she is eating and begging again, and even getting back to being slightly playfull. I hope to god it goes well on thursday or me and the wife will be cryng more than the kids!

Hope all goes well tomorrow, please let us know the outcome. Hope that the painkillers have worked for now to make Cookie more comfortable.

Best wishes for tomorrow.

I would weigh Cookie tonight & then weigh daily after her op to see if she is maintaining her weight. A guinea in pain will often not eat well & guineas need to keep eating pretty much all the time or their digestion can stop working which is a problem. Do you have any syringes for hand feeding if needed? I expect your vet will send her home with metacam for pain relief, do ask about this if they don't mention it.

I would also be thinking about a probiotic such as Bio-Lapis while she is on antibiotics & recovering from surgery, your vet might stock it.

If she is slow to start eating after surgery, a handful of fresh grass from the back garden is the best thing I have found to tempt a piggie to eat again.

What do you keep your pigs on? A couple of old towels might be useful for the sleeping area while her scar heals.

Hope this is helpful, sorry if it's stuff you already know. It's all stuff I wish I had known before our first piggie surgery!

Let us know how she gets on :)

Cookie has made it through the op and is now recovering in her cage, she has anti bi otics still and metacam. thanks for the towel tip. will update better when i get more time, thanks for comments though

Glad to hear she is ok so far, best healing wishes to Cookie :)

still up and down, shes not propper back on her food and water yet, taking each day as it is. The vets is her new home at the moment. She is our little pig though and is doing well :) thanks for all comments.

getting her to eat on her own and drink on her own is the hardest struggle at the moment :(

Trying too as well as let her eat on her own, she has taken up a strange new habbit of keep biting the other females bum too, I dont know wha this means :(.

Cookie is a LOT better and seems a normal piggy once again thank who ever.

BUT! She has now taken up strange behavior chance, and constantly chases her sister to bite her bum (unsure if trying to eat her poop). her sister bites her neck in response saying GET OFF and its all just gone a bit **** really :(. They used to get on so well I dont know what to do now!

She is trying to eat her sister's poo I expect. Our guinea Bertie did this to Willow when he (Bertie) was recovering from major surgery. I expect it is instinctive to build up the good bacteria in the gut again. It may also be easier to digest the re-eating type of poo than starting from scratch with your own food I guess!

Willow did get a bit annoyed by it too but the phase didn't last long & Bertie stopped doing it. I expect Cookie will stop too when she has had enough.

getting better, cookie has full apitite and is maintaining weight well, has her charm back too! still not fully friends with her sister yet but its getting better!

thanks for kind comments :)
