Blossom is having to go outside for awhile. Her hutch is in shade nearly all day. I've got ice bottles but I'm not sure what else I can do to keep her cool?

Unfortunately our house is just as hot if not more than outside. There's no relief. It's badly built . We are also having all our windows and doors refitted soon. I know she'll be more comfortable in the evening and mornings as it's much cooler outside than in. I'm usually about most days so will keep an eye on her but would welcome ideas.

I fully appreciate that you have no choice but to move her out at this point in time, however, there is not much you can do to keep a hutch outside cool.

Unfortunately, hutches tend to get even hotter inside than the air temperature would suggest, even when in the shade. Hot air tends to trap inside hutches and that is the reason why it is very difficult (and unsafe if over 25 degrees) for piggies to be in a hutch during hot days.
Make sure you have a thermometer in the hutch so you can keep an eye.

Are you temperatures due to go above 25 degrees where you live?

Do use the ice bottles but do be aware that if a piggy is choosing to sit by an iced bottle then it means they are likely already overheating

She's been sitting by the ice bottle in the house a lot already unfortunately. I'll get a thermometer for the hutch. It's meant to be over 30 this week. I'm dreading it to be honest

Is she having to go out because you’re having the windows and doors done?

Yes it’ll be over 30 here too. Mine live in a shed so have to come into the house again this week. It was 27 degrees here today but their shed was at 37 (they were not in it) which would be hot enough for them to lose their lives if they were in there

Unfortunately our landlord won't allow them inside anymore. We have an inspection on Friday and then windows being done in the next few weeks

Ah right I see, that makes things difficult.
The extremes of weather we are getting is making outdoor keeping so hard now - I find it fairly easy to keep them warm in winter (except if we were to get another beast from the east situation) but keeping cool in summer when outside is very difficult unfortunately.

We're hoping to find somewhere to move to where it won't be a problem but it's not easy. Places have got more expensive. I'm going to Keep looking for a solution best for blossom. I'd rather not rehome her but I know that's a possible outcome too

I might be able to make a small pen inside for the hottest part of the day. Then put her back out later in the afternoon/evening.

We found a lovely cool bit if patio this afternoon in the garden. She was running about eating and looking nice and cool. I draped a damp sheet over part of her run. Not sure if it helped but she seemed happy. Bought a thermometer for her hutch too
