Hi all,
Well it seems i need help again,
Cooper was being treated for fungal and an abscess weeks ago,now the abscess disappeared within a few days using a product called debrisol which my GP rescue recommended,we were also bathing him and putting betadine all over him.
Now a few weeks later the abscess is back so we opened it and flushed it with saline as i leant the debrisol to a friend,
And no matter how hard we try we just cannot get rid of the fungal,he has about 40% of his hair left and now has scabs everywhere from scratching,

Are there any treatments that are safe for fungal while we are treating his abscess as the betadine just isnt working xx

I can see your dilemma Bonnie, it's a tricky situation and I really feel for you and Cooper!

I can ask Vedra tomorrow if you like, she's popping by in the morning. Treating fungal skin problems when there are notable open sores (or an abscess) should be doable somehow, but if not with Betadine then I'm not sure what with - but I will do some research and get back to you. xx

Itrafungol is ideal for fungal problems, although it does not have a licence for use on guinea pigs. Nevertheless, some vets will prescribe it.
The other drug which is still used is Grisovin Tablets.
Also, you could stop using the Betadine and try Nizoral shampoo

thankyou both,i think i may have worked out what it is,
WE are late on the mites treatment as we changed from one that wasnt working effectively that my old vet recommendedrolleyes and i had to wait for the dosage chart to arrive in the male for the ivermect so maybe its mites?

I can't offer any help :( but I just wanted to say that I hope he makes a speedy recovery xxxxxx

not going to be any help for you but would like to send you and hug and my best wishes that cooper make a swift recovery. I have one thought - in your package you got some daktarin cream could you do a patch test and see if it responds?
