I was just wondering, when we feed our piggies corn can we leave it on the cob or do we cut the corn off? Also wondering can they it corn husks? Thanks!

And the husks are fine too! Mine love eating both the husks and the corn itself!

I usually tear off the very top layer and throw it away (most here look icky), then divide the rest of the husks up and then break the cob in half.

where do you get them from i have been super markets and lidls can not find them with all leaves and silks on

Silks are my piggies favourite bit, but not found any whole corns with husks and silks for years!

sorry to be daft but i get full corn and wanted to know what part silks and husks were,i have been throwing everything out except the kernals i now think i may have wasted it ?/

The husks are the leaves, the silks are the stringy bits between the leaves and the corn. If I remember rightly the husks are pretty high in fibre.

i always thought they may choke on the stringy bits so i pick every piece off the corn before i feed it to them lol,i will give them the outsides and stringy bits tomorrow and let you know how it goes xxxxxx

I always worried about that too but it turned out to be a huge hit. If I gave them everything they loved to eat - parsley, coriander, lettuces, peppers, babycorn, broccoli and corn husks and silks - the silks always went first.

Shaz, I think farmers markets or even regular markets in town are your best bet for whole corn.

Ive yet to find corns with the husks on this year mine love them.

I'm sometimes seen lurking on the floor of Birmingham fruit and vege market collecting a bag of the husks as they always let me have them for the guineas and they just throw them on the floor under the stalls so I collect the top layer:))

well i am very pleased to say that my babies love the husks and silks even though i dice them as I'm an over obsessive piggy mum

strang though Smokey and Bandit have decided the sudenly don't like corn:{ but the will eat baby corn, they are all so fussy does anyone else have piggies that dislike corn?

Corn

I tried my boys with corn on the cob last night- they seem most unimpressed with it!

I think they've sunk their teeth into it a few times and probably decided it seems like too much work!

Back to lettuce and cucumber and soft stuff for my "soft boys"! lol:)

don't give up yet, when i first tried my boys on corn none of them except Boris would eat, i tried a few more times and now Basil and Ralph Saffron eat it too;) sometimes it takes them a few times to want to eat it :)

My lot are the same Bonnie, they are not bothered about corn on the cob but they always enjoy babycorn. Can't see the difference myself!

I look forward to August and September when corn on the cobs are plentiful and cheap. Mine eat the leaves and then strip the corn. Infact the leaves are loved more than the corn but ...

They love it all! :)
