I recently got 2 gins named Milky Way and beaver. They were in the same shop cage when they were purchased. But they seem to have squabbles over who goes under the water bottle in the corner of the cage. I don’t know if that is normal but I do find it odd. Thanks for the help!

It is always advisable to have multiple food bowls, water bottles and hideys to avoid these situations. Particularly if they are Male - it is essential that males have multiple of these items to stop any potential problems.

And they may still squabble a bit- I am currently watching 6 pigs compete to get in 1 small cardboard box full of hay even though they have 6 other hideys and 3 other hay trays!

Very true! My two boys have four beds and multiple food and water stations but they always seem to want the same one at the same time!

Hi!

Arguing about the prime spots in new territory is part of the dominance phase when guinea pigs establish a new group in any new territory.
With boars it is important that you always have everything in twos and the same item ideally well away (at least a body length) from the other same item, be it hidey, bottle, bowls (which should be ideally removed between meals to encourage your boys to eat as much hay as possible for long term health and longevity) as well as unblockable access to hay or hay in two places.
