COVID-19 Coronavirus

Yea alot of places are doing that to get out of paying 80% I've held out to get what I should be given. I'm was worried about going sick and not getting payed.
He is holding out too because we financially don't have a choice but it's a worrying time

Latest news.
It has just been announced that in Britain we are not allowed to leave our homes except for essentials like food and medical needs, travelling to and from work only if essential and for one form of exercise per day

They won't use the term lockdown as it's a media term not official term. It's an instruction and people are being threatened with fines and other police action so I think people can easily deduce this is serious now. You are allowed out the house and obviously your own garden is fine
So I can go aldi tomorrow? I've got no food in, wife isn't allowed out to get any

Its weighing up the risk of waiting it out to be fair. It is very stressful. I was on the verge of giving in because my wife has asthma

Here in my state of India only emergency hospitals are open else every has been shut down. The grocery stores, pharmacies, vets, pet shops, dentist, everything just shut down for god knows how long

O bummer, I'm outside
As long as you have a valid reason for being outside then it's fine.
And remember this won't happen overnight. Theoretically the police can punish people who flaunt the rules, but they aren't suddenly going to be popping up on every street corner.
In larger cities and towns here there are police around, but sadly in smaller villages (like mine) there are still groups of kids playing out on the street daily, despite us having officially been living under the lock down conditions for over a week.

I have insulin dependant diabetes but with 0 pay we will be on the streets with 3 kids and 8 pets within a month 😔 we don't have a choice unless the business tells him not to go in 🙄

I hadn't thought of it like that. I'm hoping to class painting/gardening as some form of exercise (legs still ache from the squats I did sorting plant pots yesterday!)

I will still be going for one walk a day with the dog as his pet sitter just confirmed she is closing.

Hubby disagrees with my interpretation of non essential workplaces getting closed. He thinks it will just be places like clothing stores where public gather that will be forced to close.

Yes I saw a message from my vets on Facebook today (where Ellie Whitehead works) saying you have to phone them and they will advise.
If they agree you need to be seen, you're not allowed inside. You must wait in the car park and phone them and then place your animals like guinea pigs in a secure box outside the car and they will come out and pick them up. They will then phone you to discuss the problem etc.
That was earlier today though; things are likely to change after Boris' latest announcement.

I still have to walk the dog once a day too but I'm doing it in remote places and either in the evening or early morning I have yet to see another person during a dog walk 😂😊

This is the complete speech for those who haven't watched it.

PM address to the nation on coronavirus: 23 March 2020
Thanks for the link - key part for reference:

That is why people will only be allowed to leave their home for the following very limited purposes:
  • shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
  • one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household;
  • any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person; and
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home.
That’s all - these are the only reasons you should leave your home.

You should not be meeting friends. If your friends ask you to meet, you should say No.

You should not be meeting family members who do not live in your home.

You should not be going shopping except for essentials like food and medicine - and you should do this as little as you can. And use food delivery services where you can.

If you don’t follow the rules the police will have the powers to enforce them, including through fines and dispersing gatherings.

To ensure compliance with the Government’s instruction to stay at home, we will immediately:

  • close all shops selling non-essential goods, including clothing and electronic stores and other premises including libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship;
  • we will stop all gatherings of more than two people in public – excluding people you live with;
  • and we’ll stop all social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies, but excluding funerals.
Parks will remain open for exercise but gatherings will be dispersed.

Hello. Not been on here for a long time but have been following this thread. Just rung my vet on ooh number as have appt at 9.00 tomorrow to see if they will be open. They don't know as waiting advice from big bosses. Will ring again in morning. I take my very old cat every month for check up and steroid inj. He has several problems the most severe being liver failure and only has a few weeks left. This is my worst fear becoming a reality. If vets have to shut he will die a slow death. If they are open tomorrow I may have to decide to pts to avoid suffering if things get even worse. I am shaking and feel sick. 😭😭😭

Are factories, offices or warehouses being closed, it's not clear from his words?
the list says Non essentials..

Sorry you are going through this, but please rest assured that your vet will not allow your cat to suffer.
Most vets will put special procedures in place based on various factors, but they will still be available for essential and emergency treatments.
I am sure your cat will continue to receive the treatment that he needs, and if not your vets will be able to offer advice on how best to manage the situation to ensure he doesn't suffer.
Thinking of you.

Can I ask cos I dont know what to do? I'm currently at a friend's house looking after her 3 children as she's a care worker. Am I still allowed to do that? She's at work tomorrow evening too

The list actually applies to non essential shops, not necessarily non public places like factories and warehouses.
It is similar to what is in place here and it is open to some degree of interpretation.
For example several warehouses here have remained open for workers, but they have changed shift patterns to allow less people around and more personal space (to comply with social distancing).
So I think it just depends and is taken on a case by case basis.
