I think I am feeding too much veg a minute. It is not a problem yet as they seem to be pooing fine etc... but wanted to check as don't want to overfeed them or give them problems in the future.

At minute an example day per pig would be inch of cucumber, a couple of lettuces leaves or one large leaf, half a carrot, half a stick of celery, five fine beans and quarter of a medium pepper.

I don't give same foods everyday so another day would be 2 brocoli florets, swede, 1/3 of a parsnip, 1/4 pepper, and a handful of spinach for example.

Another day would be handful of beansprouts, 1/4 apple, 1/4 pepper, lettuce, corn on cob

I feed this split up so a few in morning and few in evening but they get 5/6 foods a day and think maybe my portion sizes are too big, also get through a lot of peppers and tend to waste things like bean sprouts and spinach as it goes bad before they eat it all! I don't like wasting money :(

What does anyone think am I feeding too big portions?

Sounds absolutely fine Briony. Everything is in moderation, and a wide variety is good. The minimum is a handful of veg per pig per day, there's not an upper limit as such. As long as they're eating plenty of hay as well, there's nothing wrong with the amount you are feeding.

thanks guys I wasn't sure as they are not getting any pooing problems but didn't want anything to happen over time! I worry about them being spoilt but then tell myself it is only veg! glad i'm not causing them problems! I suppose it is better than spoiling them with sugary treats! I hate giving them anything like that. I try to stick to veg and then things like dried dandelion / plantain etc..

Sounds exactly what i give Flash! I was also worried about this! Good to know i'm getting it right :D

i've always found my pigs will leave what they can't manage
idk if anyone else's are like that but it gave me a good idea of how much to give them.
guinea pigs are grazers so they'll snack throughout the day- if you do give them a bit more than they need for one "meal" they can always go back to it later.
