Hi, I'm going to get Smudge neutered and was wondering what the usual cost is in your area. I have phoned up 2 different vets in the town I live in and one quoted £47 and the other was £56. Was just wondering if these were average prices?

Thanks,
Nikki

hi nikki,
i am in australia and to desex a male bunny is around $60.00 which is around 15 pounds and for a female $120.00 which is around 40 pounds. can't tell you about male guinea pigs as 99.9% of the vets here won't desex them. as they feel it is not nescressary, stressful and if you're not careful the piggies stomach will fall out as they would glue and not stitch here. to get zoe a female piggy done when she had a mass on her uterus cost me $675.80 which works out to around 169.70 pounds. i am still of the opinion that males should not be desexed-if it's not broke don't fix it. and to put them through the stress of surgery and recovery just doesn't seem fair to me. but each to their own and desexing male guinea pigs and female rabbits seem to big in the UK. thankfully it's not here in australia. wishing smudge luck with his surgery and recovery. hugs and cuddles to you and smudge. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Its £50 odd pound here in Berkshire. It varies greatly from county to county, practise to practise.

i just rung my vets about getting my boys done - £64 thats alot of money - other vets is £41, but they dont deal with piggies much so wouldn't trust them - I cant afford to spend £64 each on two boys, way too much!

I only paid 25 pounds to have digby done and that included the adoption price too (he was from the rspca) I would try as many vets as possible and make sure they know about piggies and dont charge ridiculous amounts. I think around 40-50 is the norm. :)

there are no other vets around by us, and the one who charges £64 are really good with our guinea pig and apparently deal in a fair few, so I would trust them, but I wouldn't pay that much to get them done.

My long departed lad was about £25 - they did a very good job. He went on to live with 3 ladies :D
