wow that alot. to be honest i estimated about £50 when i decided to have it done. I was amazed when it was so cheap ( its a proper vets and they were recommened to me by a rescue). Hopefully you can find it cheaper

£46 including post op check including antibiotic and painkilling injections immediately post op.

My vet charged me £45.00 a couple of weeks ago for Nutty. This included antibiotic, painkillers, veggies, overnight stay and a post op check up. xx

Thanks everyone.

I thought the price had gone up alot but that does make them expensive.

Makes it very difficult to find that sort of money when your a rescue especially when you have about 7 boars that just wont tolerate living with another boar.

Ill need to have a rethink

jez...i asked a very good vet near me (in ireland) and they charge 100 euro.....it'd be worth my while to take my 3 boys to uk...........if that were an option...think i better shop around.....

Please also remember its not always about cost. Make sure that they have done plenty of guinea pigs before and that they have good results. Also that post op care is included ect ect

Good point Mary took me over a year to find a vet that I was happy with to neuter for our rescue.

I seem to recall paying just under £100 a time at my usual vets - And £120ish for a spay.

Makes £60 sound like a bargain!

I've been quoted £56 per boy for op and a post op check... its alot which is why I'm getting my 2 done in May (role on pay day)... But then again just walking thru the door a vet trip usually costs about £17 with meds on top of that so I thought £56 for an op was reasonable.

What do other people pay for a vet trip?

I travel miles to see this particular vet as they are brilliant with guinea pigs but I was somewhat surprised that the VAT inclusive price going up approximately 14% in such a short time and also bearing in mind that VAT has gone down.

I certainly would not go to a vet just because they are cheaper.

The cost of neutering does seem to depend on the area you live in.
