I've just rung our local vets to be told that cost to neuter pigs was £60 - £70 EACH :o

I rang one recommended by Laine and was told £35 - £40 but as they're at a distance they're not happy to do it in case of emergency

What prices are usual, I think £70 per pig is ridiculous and I'm afraid my boars may have to stay single if that's the case :( Gemma and I were hoping to get both of mine and one of hers done for about £100 ish.

HIya Kayjay

When Sammy was done it cost me £35 with aftercare included, I was quoted £70 from a group Practice names Blacks in the midlands very expensive

Its a case of ringing round i think, see what the prices are you know when you find the right one !

I paid £19 for one and £22 for the other.... £60-£70 is ridiculous!

Wow that is a good price...it cost £31 at gamston to get Max neutered and I was pretty pleased with that.

I cant think where ruddington is...far out of nottingham?

Just so you know, unlike a dog or cat, the only thing neutering does to a guinea pig is make them unable to get a sow pregnant- not calm them down or not fight. Though there are a few exceptions, typically we only have a male neutered if we want him to live with a sow.

I know the only reason to neuter a piggie is so he can safely live with Sows. My Rimmer will be living with two Sows once he has been done

My budgie got sick and he was aving a fit or somthing and we rung the ve to see how much it would cost to take him there and they said about $60 and that was just to see him! Is it really risky spaying a piggy?

I think like buns it's getting easier for vets to neuter guineapigs, but spaying is trickier, but the cost is high due to the level of drugs etc required.

I would like to neuter my two boys to live with sows but if I can't find a vet I'll have to go to plan B. A local rescue where I got my buns from is going to ask her vets for a price for me.

That does seem like a lot of money - especially when you have 2 you want to do!

Not tempted to be brave and introduce Fudge and Arthur - just in case they could be friends?

Thinking about it, have just posted in another thread about it. I showed them to each other but they made very strange noises, not ones I've heard before but they didn't sound aggressive but I don't know.
