Cotton Quilt Batting?

Has anyone here who makes their own lap pads etc used cotton quilt batting for the absorbant layer? Does it work/wash well? Is it absorbant enough? I'm looking into making some lap pads for my pigs since I got a sewing machine for xmas

I don't make anything myself but I have several piggy items that have it inside the bottom fleece layer of a hidey or cuddle cup. I love the stuff. It help the item keep shape, washes great & keeps piggy bottoms dry.
