Hi. I've just rescued a little boy guinea pig. He coughs a little bit and I was wondering if this is normal? His eyes and nose are clean and clear and it's not a bad cough. He's not wheezing or anything, when he coughs is just the one time, he's not off his food and he's not loosing weight. He's got a new pet check at my vets a week on Saturday but I was wondering whether to take him sooner.

Some piggies eat their food a little too quickly, and cough when it 'goes down the wrong way', much like humans do. Does he only cough when he's eating and/or drinking?

My piggy used to cough after eating.... She stopped after a couple of weeks so i would just keep an eye on her.... Seeing as you rescued him he is probably just unused to the surrounding and trying to eat as much as he can.... Causing the food to go down the wrong way like @Jerrybelly said.... Hope this helps x

Thanks guys. I feel easier now. I'll keep an eye on it. Like I said, he's got a check at vets next week so I'm sure they'll tell me if there's anything else
