one of my boars has coughed for awhile but not often so I just warmed him up and made sure he was okay but I’m concerned he needs something but with covid-19 it’s hard to go to the vets what should I do! :(

Hey there. When you say a while, how long do you mean? How long has he coughed for & how long are the intervals between coughs? Also, does he have a wet, snotty, or crusty nose? Have you heard any hooting/snorting/wheezing when he breathes?

Guinea pigs do cough if they eat too fast, or to just clear themselves. Guinea pigs have narrow airways and eating too fast can cause them to cough. if the cough is continuous and more than a few times a day then you need to see a vet. A vet will still see your piggy with social distancing practices put in place for urgent issues. A potential respiratory infection is classed as an urgent issue.

Hi, one of by guinea pigs had to go to the vets recently and what happened when I went was you drive up, call them so they know you're here, then a vet will come out, you put the carrier on the floor, they pick it up and take it inside while you wait in the car. Then once they've finished the consultation, they call you and tell you what they've found. I don't know if it would be exactly the same where you are but it's likely it will be a similar experience. Hope this helps make you less worried :)
