Today i was watching a show on my tv when i heard a strange noise come from my pig. I had both of mine out, Twix, who is a year old, and Casanova who is only 2 months old. I was alone with Twix not too long ago and heard him do it again. I later learned it was a cough. he only does it when he is on my bed laying down and i realized my fan was on. he does not cough when he is under a blanket and i thought maybe it had to do with my fan being on so i turned it off and waited. i took him out from under my blanket and he did not cough. his breathing is normal, no discharge from his nose or eyes. i am concerned however about my other pig. when i first got him he was sneezy and still is. after cleaning his face he sneezes. He does it about 3-4 times a day. Twix does not sneeze much, only a normal amount. (i think) I got Casanova from a pet store as well as Twix. i have never had guinea pigs and i am really worried. he has only coughed about 4 times today and has only done it today. no mucus comes out as far as i have looked. I have also never had my fan on at a low speed with them in the room before so I'm really hoping it is because of that but Twix has always been a problem-prone pig. When i first got him he had ringworm, he lost his front teeth when he was younger, and only a few other minor issues. He has been to the vet for all issues and they said he was healthy after treating. He has never had any illnesses, viruses, or bacterial infections. Casanova is a Peruvian pig and i was wondering if his long hair had anything to do with it. I would also like to add that i have never heard him cough in his cage yet today. I would really appreciate if anyone can help me and i can answer any additional questions if needed. Thank you! -kaylyn

Sneezing while cleaning themselves is the norm. I think they do it to clear themselves out.

Does he cough when eating or drinking? I think if you’re worried take him to the vet, if possible.

Don’t stress look for repeated coughing or sneezing not just a single occurrence or every now and then.

One of our girls coughs when she eats as she eats that fast she virtually doesn’t chew food.
Sometime hay can be dusty too and irate nose and throat
