Hi

My Lara is a 20 week old Himi. I have noticed that when I hand feed her parsley she seems to get it stuck in her mouth. She contorts her mouth like she's trying to clear it out and often goes in with her foot to clear it. Yesterday she then started coughing like she had something stuck which freaked me and her two cagemates out. She if fine now but I am worried that this is a sign of teeth problems? The vet checked her 4 weeks ago and there was no teeth issues then.

Is this a sign of teeth problems or could it be she is just bolting her food and not taking the time to chew properly?

I would say she is eating to fast, and trying to eat too much at once. Wilma doe's this all the time... and Pebbles sometimes to they eat so fast, they get it stuck :)).

Thanks Joanne, I was hoping you would say this. I lost my Hope in October due to teeth problems so I am probably a little paranoid when it comes to seeing any of them having issues when eating. Hopefully I am just being an overanxious mother:-)

I have noticed my guinea occasionally gets food stuck when she is eating too, especially with nuggets. She chews it well once she's got it in position, super speed even! The coughing thing she does from time to time too, but I put it down to the same problem, she's just being a bit greedy and biting off more than she can chew, literally. :)

I'm glad someone has posted this because my boys do this quite a bit.
Especially when i bring them veg, they cant seem to get it down quick enough, and they do a little cough because it seems to get stuck.
Seems to be a common thing! :)

Greedy guts syndrome... I've got some here as well! rolleyes

One of my pigs do this too, its normally when he is scoffing veg or grass. I did worry at first but now I'm used to him clearing his throat. :)

Roger suffers greedy guts syndrome on occassion, then you hear a rather endearing cough.
