Hi guys,

Just after some advice. I’ve had my boys for a few months now and they’re about 5 months old. One of them has started coughing/sneezing more for nearly a week now. It sounds like he’s clearing his throat. I was a bit concerned so took him to the vet on Friday. The vet listened to his chest and checked him over. He said his chest sounds clear and no sign of any infection there. He looked in his mouth and said that all looked good too and he has no nasal/eye discharge normally associated with URI’s. He gave him an anti inflammatory injection and sent us away with a few days of metacam and told me to monitor him and come back if I was still worried. He’s still eating and drinking well but does appear less vocal than normal. He is still coughing/sneezing more than normal and it doesn’t sound like he normally does but no nasal or eye discharge. Has anyone experienced this and have any advice?

Thank you

Just to add the other piggie is fine. They’re housed on wood shavings and hay (the same kind they have always been on for the few months I’ve had them)

It’s great you’ve had him checked by the vet
and his chest is clear. Obviously you will want to keep an eye on him to make sure things don’t change.

Piggies have narrow airways so any dust in the airways will cause them to cough and sneeze. This dust can come from hay or bedding.
Perhaps this batch is dustier than you have had before.
