Hello BonBon,
Truffles is gorgeous, but as a rescue-orientated forum, we are against showing of guinea pigs (and other animals) as the piggies are often bred specifically to such unrealistic standards by unscrupulous breeders, who interbreed mothers with their sons etc which causes horrible illness in piggies, sows are nothing more than breeding machines, they never have time off being pregnant, and also why the need for such breeding when there are soooo many gorgeous piggies waiting for homes in rescue and homeless centres.

Oh i'm not into breeding, I'm just interested in small local shows, ones that show pets, not breeds as such x

Hi All,

Just a little point of clarification with regard to showing..

Section 3 of the forum rules " Breeding and Showing "

The following extract :

No member should discuss 'showing' in regards to club/breeder shows as this is against the forum ethos

So basically @BonBon2010 is not breaking forum rules as "Truffles" is a family pet and is not intended to be shown at any club/breeder specific show.

As @GeorgesHuman has stated any intentional breeding for the purpose of showing is against forum rules for the reasons that have been stated in the post.

Lisa & Ali..

I am very set against breeding for showing purposes, as I know those who don't make the grade end up as what @GeorgesHuman describes, plus, as an example, I've seen shocking changes in some dog breeds, that now look nothing like what they originally did 50 years ago, meaning some are left struggling to breathe for the sake of fashion.
My idea of showing Truffles, is nothing much different to the forum's photo competition, just for fun. She's gorgeous, and I just want to show her off ;)

Pug dogs really struggle to breathe, don't they through that short snout of theirs? It's awful that people forgo their pets health just because their breed is that of a cute or as you say, a fashionable one. It's a shame.

I think Truffles would win hands down at a piggy beauty contest anyway. She's very pretty. My three boars, Oscar, Elliot and Charlie are swooning at her as I type this! Calm down boys, I said!

There's plenty of photo competitions on the forum and of course most village fetes have pet shows, you know the type: waggiest tail, floppiest ears, fluffiest pet etc - I'm sure she'd win something, she's stunner!

There will be a photo competition next month in fact!

you could but it would be more for you, rather than her. and i don't think taking pets to a strange environment like shows is nice for them at all. plus if she is bonded then you'd have to take them all because taking her from her friends wouldn't be right either. i don't like shows at all. photo competitions you could enter aswell and i'm sure she would do well :)

I rescued a pug cross Boston terrier and second.that it is not a good breed at all my Alfie is my baby but to hear him breathe sometimes is awful and when it's hot he isn't allowed to even go for a walk:-(

Truffles.however is a very pretty piggy! Beautiful. X

There was a rescue who did a bit of a show recently. I would look on your local papers website to see if there are any pet shows locally. Every year there is a dog show on park near me and it is just a bit of fun with rspca and other charities there usually some birds of prey etc.. i think one year i went to a different one near me and there was a donkey from a donkey santuary!
