My piggy Daisy is all alone after I had to get my other piggy Honey out to sleep on Tuesday :(

She seems to be fine but I was just wondering if she would maybe get cold at nights? she lives indoors but our heating isn't on at night and its sometimes chilly when I get up in the morning. Now that she is alone she has no-one to snuggle up with :(

I was thinking about buying some of the 'snooze' bedding that's a bit like cotton wool. Has anyone ever used it?

Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear you had to have your other Piggie put to sleep :( and I bet daisy is missing her loads. The ideal thing would be to see if there was a rescue near by they could possibly bond her with another Piggie so she has company and someone to snuggle up with? I haven't used that type of bedding before, but I have a snuggle pad that you heat in the microwave and then cover it with a cover and my skinny girls love that tochelo keep warm. Would you be able to bond her with another big do you think?

Never buy the wool type bedding. Its not pet friendly and can get stuck in their gut, ultimatly causing death. It can also get stuck in teeth preventing them eating, or get caught on claws becomming stuck around legs and cutting off circulation.

Alot of people use snuggle pods, from what i have read its like a microwavable pad for pets to stay warm. You can get them from amazon :)

I will never use the "snuggle" bedding again either. As I used to buy it for my hamster and one day my hamster was up in the day time. I noticed she had this bedding wrapped round her leg, her leg was bright red. Good job I noticed it. The bedding was promptly removed and disposed of.

A box full of hay perhaps? Snugglesafes are a good idea.If she is in a c&c what about a carrier lined with puppy pad or towel then fleece or just loads of hay and substrate

Thanks for your replies. Yeh I ance always been wary of buying the wool but just thought I'd ask.

At the moment I don't really want another piggy. Daisy seems to be acting like her usual self at the moment apart from she doesn't wheel anymore:( but she still begs for her food etc. There are no rescue areas around me as I live in Aberdeenshire. I may consider another piggy in time.

I will look into a snuggle pod just now :)

give her a really packed cosy hay area so she has the choice of extra warmth, you could even put a snugglesafe in aswell when it gets even colder.

I will pack the houses with some hay just now. I have never worried about them being cold before but now she's on her own and it's getting colder in Scotland just now I worry about her. It's not as if my house is freezing, it's just a bit colder just now. Maybe I'm just being paranoid!

Does she have plenty of snuggly items?

She has a straw bed with a fleecy blanket in it and a fleecy cosy cup. They are not in the little houses though and she prefers to sleep in the houses.
Do you use fleece bedding?
I'm glad to hear she's doing well as a solo piggy :)

keep an eye on the scottishspca.org site. last i checked there was 6 rescue piggies looking for homes in the aberdeen branch. glad to hear she is doing fine on her own though!

Oh thanks for that. I didn't realise.
I am seriously in 2 minds about getting another little piggy. Where does it end if you keep getting a second piggy, if you know what I mean? But then I would hate for Daisy not to lead a long, happy life just because she is alone :(

I have lost two precious girls this year, one old timer, and a younger one at 4. I now have the other 4 year old with two 6-8 month old piggies. I've always found the three ratio works well, as what ever happens there's always two together (in theory).
I have that exact dilemma with Biscuit the Boar, he's 5, and been a solo pig for three years, I originally got him as a companion to another who passed as they were pretty old too, got another one, and they had a short life, with a sudden death. Makes it difficult to continue sometimes, not knowing if you want to continue with them.
It does fill a void though, and sometimes they heal broken hearts.

I am considering getting Daisy a companion now. I just hate to think of it as replacing Honey. But Daisy is only 3.5 :(

Are you planning on getting another friend for Biscuit?

Sorry just realised he has been a solo pig for 3 years so he must be happy! can he hear/see the other piggies?

He lives under the girls pad, so can chat with them without the temptation. He's happy with that, nothing beats communication with another of his kind, even if he can't share space with another.

BonBon is 4 with two young cage mates. Treacle was nearly 7 when she past, so even though she was 3 when she met BonBon, she still spent a good 4 years with her, you just don't know if they're going to pass over sometimes. It's worth a chance with Daisy :) x

She needs a new friends, in the mean time use a hot water bottle or something but remember to change it, once it goes cold it's really no good

I really am considering it. I am keeping my eye on the scottish SPCA website for any piggies needing rehomed in my area. They just have 2 males at the moment who are not neutered.
