So, as you guys probably know, I'm under attack from coyotes and have had two dogs go in for surgery. I'm on a tight budget, but I'm making an appointment for little wee Onyx anyways.

She has a milky glaze over her eyes ALL the time, almost like my old Terv who had cataracts. She's much more calm and relaxed compared to the guinea pigs, and seems to know the layout of her cage, so I don't mess with it just in case she is blind. Her eyes don't really follow movement, but it's that weird bluey hue/glaze that is really unsettling.

Is this associated with blindness, from your experiences? What could it be?
I'm making an appointment for her, I just want to know what you guys think. Perhaps I'm just overreacting? I just haven't seen it in her sister Pippa, or our boars, Dexter and Elvis.

THIS is what I am referring to, although it's a little hard to tell in photos:

Her eyes look normal to me. But the picture isnt very clear. what age is your piggie? Cataracts can form in old age, and usually look like a white disk appearing on the lens of the eye.

Guinea pigs really dont have great eyesight anyway, and you will often find they dont follow everything with there eyes anyway. They use smell, sound and their whiskers to find their way around much of the time. I would say unless your piggie is actually physically bumping into things then she isnt blind. Try putting something new in the cage and see how she responds. Try dropping cotton wool in front of her face and see how she responds. She doesnt look blind to me, but without the vet checking i couldnt be 100% sure.

x.
