Could this be done.

I need a bigger hutch for Iggy - she is in one that is just over 3ft and so I know this isn't ideal. Ginger is in one that's over four foot and so he's okay. I have a spare 3ft hutch that isn't being used since Snowy died a few weeks ago so I was wondering if there is anyway that I could sort of put these two hutches together to make a 6ft one for her?:{

The smaller hutches are the ones I mean.

I wouldn't know how but I'm sure someone with carpenting skills could ! I'll see if my dad would find out how you could do it ! He helped me attacha run and ramp to my origonal cage !

Thanks Georgie-porgie. It might be a rubbish idea really but its a shame cos this hutch isn't been used so if it could be used to extend the other one it would be brilliant.:Ayociexp120:

Yes it could definitely be used to extend the first hutch but It depends how the hutch is fastened together itself. In theory it should be possible to remove the right-hand end on 1 hutch, the left hand end on the other and join them together but it could be a right pain to do. Its all to do with how the legs are connected and the front and back connected to the existing sides.

joining two cages.

the way my hubby saids to do it is take the ends of each hutch like right end of one and left end of the other hutch.
rule two about 6 inch pieces of timber now screw them to each side of the hutches straight down, so you have two 6 inch timbers left and right on right end of hutch one and two 6 inch timbers left and right on left side of hutch two.
now get some screws and screw the 2 cages together by the 6 inch timber plus put a piece of timber on the floor and roof of the hutches where they meet.
and now you have 2 cages instead of one! if confused message me and will try and explain :{:{:{

i meant both cages, you take one side of each cage and cut it so you have say 2 six inch pieces of timber, screw back onto cages two each cage. then screw the 2 planks on each cage to eachother so the cages are joined together. now for added protection put a bit of timber on the roof and floor where the two cages meet. and now you have 2 cages.
hoping i have explained it properly, it is easily done than explain as we do it all the time.
like two 2ft cages are cheaper here than a 4ft one so we bought 2 2ft ones and joined them together. and when our fur babies grow we had extensions to their cages.

I think your right choloe, you would have to take the right side of the left cage off and the right side of the left cage off ! Then you would have to screw them together somehow ! @)@)@)

two cages made into one

did you OH know what i was talking about on how to join 2 cages to each other?
it is very easy to to do just hard to explain, i will try again, take of left end of one cage, and take of right side of other cage.
now you have two pieces of wood, mark about 2 by 6 inches on both boards and cut timber.
put one 6 inch board on each corner of the cage on the sides you removed the side from. so you have a side with 2 six inch boards on the corners of each cage. now push cages together so the 6 inch boards are touching and screw together. then put a bit of timber on the top of outside of roof and floor to give joining of the two cages more strength.
have i explained it better this time/ now two cages have become one big mama of a cage. please tell me you understand? we have done this many times, okay have just taken a picture so will load it to PC and then photobucket and then here. so please be patient. thanks.:rose:rose:rose

okay you take the sides off and cut as in the picture put cut piece on left end of one cage and right end of other cage then screw together, then add timber to roof and floor for addded strength.
the pictures are of the 6 inch timber i am talking about that you screw the two cages together to make one. hoping this helps. let me know if it doesn't.:{:{:{

you can see the two 6 inch timbers you put on each corner to join two cages into one.

hoping this has helped you can see there is a gap between the boards for piggy to run through.

You could always turn the two small ones into a double tier with a ramp ... You could turn the top one upside down - legs sticking into the air. Then cut a hole in the bottom (formerly top) of the hutch and repeat that with the hutch on the bottom of it. Add a ramp and off you go!

Insead of taking the whole sides off each hutch and joining them together, could an opening be made in each side and then joined? Perhaps a piece of pine plank could go on the floor part to strengthen it and stop any piggy toes being caught. Its hard to explain, but if you imagine a trains connecting doors except they are permenantly open of course @)

Yes actually that is what I thought of when I first had the idea - maybe a hole put in the sides of both hutches or something.:{

My OH has joined some of my hutches together, some he cut out a panel in each side, others he just cut a hole in the ends to join them

Did he put a tunnel or something through the holes or did he have to screw the hutches together or anything?/ Going to sort the shed out at weekend and see if we can do the hutch then. I'm thinking of getting Lavender Lodge from Pets at home for my two little piggies that are inside at the moment and maybe putting Ginger my big male guinea pig in the two that are joined together and bringing Iggy inside cos she is my favourite guinea pig after Nemo. Iggy lives on her own because she didn't get on with Snowy the female I bought for her who sadly died a few weeks ago. If she gets on with the two female young piggies I might let her live in Lavender Lodge with them but if not will keep her inside.
