piggymummy

After some weeks of going into my petshop and seeing this big lonely piggy and thinking about him a lot, I finally asked the girl in there what sex it was... and she said...

"its a boy, nobody wants him coz he's big, he's been in there 6 months :("

(as some of you might remember I have 4 girls andwhen i left the shop i felt really bad i'd left him there just because he was a boy)

well, anyway when i got home i sorted out the empty hutch we had and went back and picked him up! he's now named Harry and although he's still hiding in the igloo now he has let me pick him up and actually laid flat on his back on my lap and looked as though he might fall asleep! bless.

so thats my news will try and get pics when he's more settled.

i'd really appreciate advice on caring for boars as i've only really had girls before, thanks in advance x

Congratulations and well done for offering him a home. I bet he is a handsome little fellow as well. Welcome Harry. :)

Congratulations on getting Harry! Do you know how old he is? Were you planning to keep him seperate from the girls or were you thinking of having him neutered so then he can have 4 girlfriends! What a happy chap he would be then. Have a look at the barmy 4 boars website which has loads of really useful info on keeping boars. I have 4 and no sows, one pair in seperate cages so there is no fighting for dominance. Piggies don't like being on their own, so neutering and putting him with your sows is probably your best option. If he smells your sows or smells them on you, he will probably go crazy trying to get to them :D

Is the big man brave enough to have his photo taken? I'd love to see him.

grrrr! Harry has finally come out of his igloo to see us and the camera wont work! maybe its just me tho so as soon as i've got it fixed or figure out how to use my oh's camera phone will post some! he's enormous! lol x

by the way thanks lavenderjade he is around 6-7 months they said they'd had him from a baby. as of yet i am planning on keeping him separate but time will tell. i realise piggies love company, and i'm in the process of trying to get my 4 girls all to b friends at the moment, (theyre in two pairs separate because they dont get on) so in the future harry might get two, hopefully 4 girlfriends! x

Yipee for Harry! After 6 months all alone, all his christmases and birthdays come at once! Would love to see pics soon...well done again. What breed is he? My Lennie is an abby cross and when people see him for the first time they say he is more like the size of a cat ;D

aww bless him what a wondeful way to end up with 4 girls maybe he will think well worth the wait, i'd have done the same as you and brought him thats how I got my Charlie my wonderful rex and dad to Ava and Edie I waited over 3 years to find him and he was waiting ages for a new home and then we found each other :smitten:

Congratulations on adopting Harry! I'm sure he is very grateful! Pics when you can would be great! :smitten: (I've got 4 girls and adopted a lone ginger teddy who I took pity on in the pet shop, it was a girl so I didn't have to learn about boars but I felt very happy collecting her!) Well done you ;)

Awwwh I bet he's well happy he's got a lovely home now :)
If you've got girls, and Harry is fully grown you could get him neuted and put him with the girlies, he'd love that!

awww congratulations on Harry - i'm glad he has a wonderful new home :) O0
