Hi guys. Have any of you used couriers for guinea pigs? Are they safe to use? If so, who do you recommend and how much do they roughly cost?

Thanks :-)

I nearly used a courier for a hamster a friend had in london, the courier had been recommended by a breeder who regularly used them and never had any issues however when I looked into how long the animals were on the road, how they were kept, how often they were checked it did not meet my expectations so I didnt use them. This happened with 3 different couriers, booked the best one and they messed up as about promised the hamster would only be on the road for 5 hours and then at last minute said they'd changed the route and it would be 2 days instead. Very shady business IMHO. In terms of cost I had been quoted £50.

Hi becs, I did look into this but I did not get very positive feedback, and one courier that was recommended to me by someone who bred goats didnt carry small furries. I think it would be a bit too risky for your girls :(

Please take a look at this thread.

I really cannot recommend a courier to anyone. While i'm sure they aren't all the same, what I went through was an absolute nightmare.

I have never used one but it generally doesn't sound a great idea to me.

It leaves things out of your control for a significant portion of time and it must be difficult to get a good recommendation. If it were me I would want to see the vehicle they were using and have personal recommendations from people I trusted first before considering booking as there are many horror stories out there about trips which ended badly.

You need to be happy in your own mind that your pets are safe, healthy and treated well.

Where are you trying to get them from and to?

I can vouch for this group - http://animalcouriers-px.rtrk.co.uk/

I haven't personally used them but I do know people who have and I know them. They are lovely and really genuinely care for the animals. I believe they are currently involved in a rescue getting some animals who are in danger to safety but I'm sure if you contact them then they can get back to you when they are free.

Hope this helps

Hey guys thanks for your feedback. Sport billy I would need to get them from south Wales to Gloucester, its about an hour 20 mins I think

I'd use a cat carrier to be honest; There is hardly any risk of them escaping or getting lost- providing you close it properly!

Hey! I'm in the gwent area, which area do you do when you are here? X

Where in South Wales? I sometimes do this route

Me too - but personally will not be doing another such run til Xmas. Glad Amanda is on this too!

Guineabecs......can you confirm if they are going to Windwhistle ? Just a yes or no.

Oh I thought you meant the pigs needed to get from South Wales to you in Gloucester like you'd found some for adoption. Is it that they're going the other way?

Ah, no, its just Guinea-Becs and me trying to work out if we can get the piggles from her home in Gwent to my relations in Gloucester ;) We are in Nottingham but go to Gloucester to visit my husband's grandmother, we also have other family there and my husband's aunt travels from Gloucester to Nottingham on a weekly basis. So we were just trying to work out if there was an appropriate solution to get the piggles from Gwent-Gloucester when they could then be brought back to Nottingham either by me and my husband or by my husband's aunt (she is guinea pig savvy).

Sorry for confusing anyone ;)

I visit various haunts in South Wales and used to live in Bristol (now live in Somerset so go past Bristol) but I'm currently working 7 days a week so wouldn't be doing that journey any time soon unfortunately.

Thanks for that Amy - but unfortunately they dont transport guinea pigs and rabbits etc within the UK. x

Ah that's a shame. I've seen them transporting guinea pigs in other countries so I hoped they were the same here.

Simon Fox or Trust Smart both can be found on facebook and I know many people use Simon Fox and he is very good and trusted by many in the guinea pig community as well as rabbits :)
