hello peeps

well the day has sadly come that i have had to split the boys up.

i just came home from work to find a war wound down craigs face. i rang our very own laura and she made me feel a better but I'm devastated that i didnt notice how bad they were fighting this morning. they were just constant chattering.

Anyway, iv put craig in a rubbish pets at home 55 quid cage and its so not big enough and daves got the cc to himself. I'm just wondering what to do now. i ordered them a big cc cage yesterday but iv cancelled it for now but was wondering should i not make two smaller cc cages for them both.

what is a recommended cage size for one pig on his own? would a 2 x3 be ok? i feel well tight on craig hes really wound up and stuck in a little cage but craigs not as active as dave so i thought he might do better in it.

also will i have to seperate them both for play time now :( x

So sorry to hear that the boys have fallen out, better to have them apart and happy than together and hurting. If they are young enough you could get them neutered and find them wives!

thanks everyone, its gutting isnt it.

iv had a look on that website but will they ok in a 2x3 i feel a bit tight as they have had all that space to run about and now the party is over. i was thinking of getting another 2x4 but surely thats silly just for 1 pig x

I am sorry about the break up. It will not be easy to downsize for the boys!

You can try to keep the boys side by side in two 2x3 grid cages, so that they can still interact and perhaps be able to share runtime or even move back in together when the hormones have settled.

Otherwise, you could think about having the boys neutered and pair each with a girl - that's a very stable relationship and therefore worth thinking about. Look at Joanne (flinstones)! We have had other members going down that road with a full success. My Llewelyn started out that way as well for two years before he acquired more and more ladies over the last year. In this case, a second 2x4 cage would be needed.

I am sure that BecklenGPRescue or Logiebear could help you with recommending a good gp vet in your region.

AWWW Babe - sad day :(

I think a 2 x 3 for each is enough. What a pain they wont get on!

I have had 3 boys neutered and it's all been fine (I have a great vet) so it's worth thinking about but I know it's not for everyone and not everyone believes in it.

You can get a rescue to pair up your lads with other lads that they are compatible with? Another option.

Or just have the 2 of them side by side.

x

I find boy/girl relationships are by far the best as Wiebke says! All my Pigs agree. I suppose thats why I have two couples and one waiting to be paired!

Strangely enough November this time last year I had exactly the same problem with boys.

Big hugs.

2 X 3 should be fine as they get floor time as well. You might be able to have them both out together as you're there to supervise. Have a towel ready. You know what to look for if it's not working.

Am so sorry you have had to split them up. Must be heartbreaking.

really feel for you, exactly the same thing happend with my 2 boys and i was heartbroken ! this is the c&c cage we built for the split, appart but can still interact and see each other. good luck and keep us informed on what you choose :) x

Aww sorry to hear about your boys! :( Its horrible when you have fights, both for you seeing them in distress and splitting them up and for the little one's :( Silly boys! Hope you sort out the housing arrangements soon! :)

aaw i love all you lot, you always make me feel better :))

iv got some good ideas off you all, going to have a good think tonight and master a plan of whats best to do. i love that cc cage samantha that is FAB!

i could get them the castratrated but then id feel horrendous if anything went wrong, lots to think about i guess.

i might even be daft and get another 2x4 cage as you never know whats around the corner there could be some wifes on the horizon .... x

Sorry to hear your boys aren't getting along :( Good luck with whatever you decide to do

p.s. Didn't realise you were in Bolton too :)

Best of luck! It is better not to rush into anything. A split up is not the end of the world, but you want to think about your options and finally go with what your gut tells you is the right way forward for you and your two boys.

Awww I'm so so sorry about this. I hope Craig is doing fine - poor guy. I'm not used to having your two boys split 'cause I always think Craig and David, David and Craig, not Craig | David... Sorry I'm not much help and I'm just rambling :)) I hope you get everything sorted out xx

aaw thanks people

yes i noticed you was from bolton to its nice to know people off the forum are local.:))

i feel a bit sad now david seems ok but he is in the big cage he has been popcorning, however, craig seems distressed and is constantly jumping up at the bars and squeaking i feel a bit sorry for him, do we think that will change if i get him a bigger cage x:{

Heya
Just to say he will settle down. I had to seperate Dolly's boys from her and my gosh didn't they make a noise, they cried all the time for a full 24 hours before settling down.
Once they did they were fine. Give it a day or so and he'll be fine.
x

I'm sorry... It must be really hard to have to separate them!

That cage Samantha uploaded is fab! But yes, another 2x4 will allow for many solutions...

cheers lisa, he still distressed this morning constantly jumping up at the bars to try and see were david is. the thing is craig was always so nasty to david and now hes not with him hes distressed. i think i feel worse cus he is in a really small cage and hes going to be in it for 2 weeks until i get the new ones. i might split my 2x4 up until it comes x

Sorry to hear the boys have had to be split up - how old are they? If it's the terrible teens hormone stage then housing them next to each other and waiting out the hormone surges may work and you can try re-introducing them once they are older, no need for neutering then and the extra C&C will make a huge cage for them both to live in.

Suzy x

So sorry they had to be separated. :( 2X3 should be fine for one piggy, but if you feel like making it a bit bigger then you can afterwards. The more space the better really.

If you still are considering getting a couple more pigs, then it'd be a good idea to get craig and dave neutered and get two girls. Just in case, if you got more buys, they might not like them either.

Oh no I'm so sorry that Craig and David have had a fall out :(
Hope you're ok, has Craig calmed down yet? How are the wounds? Healing ok I hope.

If you've got the space another 2 x 4 would cover you for all eventualities, except if they make up again in the future (fingers crossed) then you will have quite a bit of left over C&C - you could sell it on if you don't have a use for it? In the meantime I would think 2 x 3 is fine for a piggie bachelor pad.

Thinking of you (especially as my boys were 'nippy' too when I left this morning... :... ).

the boys are 7 month old on friday.

i thought id be clever tonight and i put a divider in the cc cage and put craig back in they both went mad trying to get eachother at the bars rumble strutting so iv had to change that round and put craig back in his cage.

iv ordered another 2x4 correx today so they will have a 2x4 each taking up all the kitchen hahaha naughty boys. i wish they hadnt fallen out. :(

Why don't you use my idea... the cages on top of each other that way it doesn't use anymore room?
