Cranberry Juice

Hi everyone, I was just wanting a bit of advice about what cranberry juice to give to my piggy, how much & how often.
Baby Gizmo has been diagnosed with cystitus & is currently having 0.1ml of Baytril syringed per day. I have read a few threads on here that say cranberry juice will help so I want to get her some.
Any advice would be much appreciated xx

I asked this question a the other day You should buy unsweetened cranberry juice and Ocean Spray is the best. I generally give roughly a syringe full at a time but make sure you let piggy drink it rather then forcing it down as some pigs don't like it. I don't think you can give too much and I was advised 2 to 3 times a day x

That dose of Baytril is too low, in any case it is not the best antibiotic for cystitis.
The preferred drug is Septrin Paediatric Suspension, 0.5ml twice daily for 10-14 days.
Cranberry juice, as much as possible. I have known pigs who will drink [*]30ml[/*], per day.

Thanks Claire, what size syringe did you use?

Mine is just a standard syringe given to me by my vet (I have loads of them). It goes up to 1,0 ml so is probably the same one that your vet has given you to give the Baytril x

Any syringe over 1ml is usually too big to safely and easily fit into a piggies mouth.

As AP said, the Baytril, especially at that dose, may not be effective enough against cystitis. If there is no improvement after the course of Baytril, see if your vet will prescribe Septrin.
