Hi There
Does anybody know what this crawlie bug thing is? It is about 11mm long and seems to have young the size of a pin head. They seem to like wood, cardboard and anything rolled up. Noticed a few under the stairs cupboard and a couple in my living room. Nothing on my Guinea pigs or their cages but they just give me the creeps. If anyone can identify what they are I would be truly grateful. Thanks.

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry but I have no idea; it doesn't look like a silverfish to me - they are distinctively slivery unless it is a dead one?
However, they should not be a problem or major health risk for your guinea pigs. But of course you want to get rid of them indoors.

For knowledgeable help with identification and treatment advice you may find the British Pest Control Association website helpful: A-Z

Alternatively, I would recommend to contact your local council's pest control with your picture.

Are they silverfish?
Silverfish are an insect, they won’t bite you/piggies, but they do like cardboard!

I would suggest speaking to an expert about the best way to get rid of them.

After you've hoovered them up, you could also spray the area with F10 which kills off most things. You may need to do this for a few weeks to get rid of the egg cycle. It took me about 8 weeks of hoovering the hutch and liberally spraying it with F10 on a weekly basis to get rid of an earwig infestation years ago when the hutch was in the garden. When we moved 6 years ago, the hutch went in the garage. I now use F10 on a weekly basis to clean the hutch, a quick spray around and once every 2 months, I give the hutch a good deep clean.

F10 is available from Amazon. It may seem expensive, but as it's a concentrate it lasts a long time.
