Hi All,

Anne is kindly supplying me with some Lice N Easy for the girls who have running lice and I am collecting that tomorrow but I did ring my vet to get advice too. She rung back tonight and said they don't give injections for lice as they are easily treated and their is a 'new' product out which hasn't really been tested on guineas and would I like to try. I said I would think about it once I've talked to hubby. Basically it is a painted cream that stinks apparantly and you leave it on them and then wash it off. It's been giving high praises by demetologists and has been tried on pigs with them but not used much on pigs in vets.

I'm also to take the girls up tomorrow for a check up, but I'm thinking if it is freezing then the extremem temperature may be too much for them.

Peter also had an idea that grooming could help get the lice out, would that work? They don't have many and to be honest they aren't scratching as much as they were yesterday.

Any ideas what this cream could be? I'm unsure what to do for the best. :-\ I don't want my girls to become guinea pigs if you see my meaning!

Thanks

Louise

hi louise,
I dont know about the cream I'm sure someone on here will have heard of it and give you some advice.I thought mine had running lice a few months agoand now I do mine regulary with a spot on that contains ivomectin thats also a wormer and this has worked for me. Il dig some out and post the brand for you but you can get it in pet shops. Its the only over the counter product (except g g shampoos) that iv found that works. It contains similar amount of ivomec to what the vet has given me before but saves me the ridiculous consultation fee of £19.

Thanks Joe,

Peter wasn't keen on this cream stuff either so I don't think we will be going down that road. Lice N Easy and topping up with the spot on. I've used spot on before when I thought Sunshine had them but it was more preventaion than cure. :)

lol Louise i loved the pun ;D i wouldnt go down that road either O0

I have only ever had 2 piggies with lice and that was pumpkin and his mum honey,I used lice and easy and after 2 baths they where compleatly clear.
I have never heard of the cream

Thanks guys,

I've come to the conclusion my vets are a little experimental! They gave Cuzzy an antibiotic which isn't proven to be effective in Guinea Pigs although I know he had other issues but Baytril should have been given to him.

As it is only Lice I'll go with the shampoo. They are actually happy popcorning like crazy and eating and playing hide and seek at the mo. Just going to give them some veg.

I love my girlies and won't have them experimented on.

Thanks again!

Louise

I don't think grooming out lice works. they're tricky customers! Lice and easy is the best I've found, when mine had lice the vets had no clue what to offer me at all. Some creams work by 'smothering' the lice i think though

Thanks Starla, yeah they are quick I noticed that today! I've still not seen anything on Fleur but she has a couple of flakes. Flora is all black so they are easy to spot I blinked and they were gone! Other than the odd scratch they aren't bothered by them but of course I want them gone. My little girl is calling Flora Nitsy now! ::)
