Critical Care Advice?

We're also in the process at the moment of feeding one of our piggies with critical care. She hates it but hubby has had a lot of experience feeding sick piggies in the past and has already mastered it! The way he does it is by having 2 different syringes: one for pureed carrot (sometimes cucumber or melon), and the other for the critical care. He feeds it alternately per 2 or 3 ml during feeding so our piggie would not get bored of the critical care's taste (do not forget a syringe for water as well). The weird thing though is our other 2 guinea pigs (Deedee & Bunny) are gagging for the critical care and want their share as well everytime we feed Meemee.:lol!:

Anyway, we currently have 2 brands of critical care feeding our piggie, Oxbow and the Burgess Excel Dual Care. We find that our sick piggie responds a bit better with Burgess Excel (but she still hates critical care). Maybe you can try that.

Have her stools been lab tested to find out what could be causing the softness as this has been going on for a bit now without a real change? Have you explored the possibility of a grain-free diet?

Have you considered trying fibreplex and other brands of recovery food to see whether she likes them better? They are all doing the same job. Fibreplex is especially good with ongoing digestive problems.

Yes she had a stool culture that was negative, my vet says she has banana/Apple flavored critical care may have to try that? I think I would have to look for Finreflex on line

Thank you! I might have to try something else can't give her any veggies according to vet

You can try the flavoured CC and see how that is going down. Many piggies do not like the plain one.
Online links for fibreplex (which you can give additionally to Critical Care) etc. are in the probiotics etc. thread which I have parsed into my last post.

All you can do, is shop around and see what works in a situation like that, as each piggy is different.
