Hi, our piggy Bandit is home after a 4 day stay with the vet. He will need to be syringe fed Critical Care. Must the mixture be refrigerated after mixing or can it be left out in room temperature? We have syringe fed before but have never used Critical care. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks so much!

I remember reading a thread not long ago that said it didn't keep for very long once opened :)

It needs to be used within 24 hours once mixed with water as it starts to go off. I person ally have never put it in the fridge but I cant say I know if you should?

Thanks for your replies. After 4 days with the vet, the vet was not able to figure out what is really going on with Bandit. He thinks he either ate something that he shouldn't have or he may have an infection. He became ill suddendly. He lost his appetite, had difficulty walking & became impacted. Without intervention from the vet he would have already passed. I'm not sure if he has hit a rough patch that he can overcome or if old age has just caught up with him (he is 7 years old). He is weak but he hasn't given up on life yet - he is battling. He is being syringe fed Critical care, vitamin C & is on metronidazole. He won't eat pellets or any solid food, just romaine lettuce.

An update on Bandit..patience, patience & more patience. Bandit has been home from the vet for 8 days. Today he ate some pellets for the first time! He started to eat a small amount of veggies a few days ago. What I have learned from this experience is that it takes time & patience for a piggy to recoup from stomach/digestive problems. It has been slow, small steps forward one day after the other. I finally feel that Bandit is out of the woods and will be OK. He is still somewhat weak, but his appetite is back. Thought I would post this in hope that this will be of encouragement to others if they experience this. Don't expect sudden progress...but small steps forward one day after the other. I am so happy for Bandit!

Wonderful news! Please weigh him daily to make sure that he's eaten enough and if necessary top him up. Be careful It can take a few weeks for his digestion to fully stabilise. Also make sure that you re-introduce vegetables only one by one; too much too quickly could cause problems again. Make sure that he stays hydrated. If necessary syringe him water.
