A rather obscure question but I'm hoping the more experienced members of the forum can help. Is it possible guinea pigs can catch diseases from birds?
I'm talking indoor pigs sharing a room with budgies. Thanks

There are several potential bugs that can be spread from pet birds to humans and/or guinea pigs- assuming the budgies are carrying them in the first place:

These include Salmonella, E coli, campylobacter, mycobacteria. Birds also carry chlamydia psittacii - NOT to be confused with the chlamyidia normally seen in piggies C.cavie which is transmitted from mum to babies during birth and presents as eye problems.

Is there something concerning you about your piggie's health atm or is this just general question about them sharing the same room?

Happy to talk further if you want to PM me.
