I keep forgetting who posted those pictures of "Flower", a piggy that had been badly neglected. As permission was given to use the photographs, I have now ordered a Tshirt to be printed (quite cheap too, 8 pound for a fitted ladies shirt, 5.50 for a ordinary one) that will look very similar to this (font will be bigger though than on this picture):

Untitled-2%20copy.jpg

What do you think?

Have you ever designed your own tshirts? Would love to hear other slogans you used... I mean the most common one is "Dont breed or buy while shelter pets die", have you got any others? I would love to be a walking talking campaign sign, but CafePress Tshirts are so very expensive, plus shipping, that I thought I will just do my own from now on :-)

Will let you know once I have the shirt, and if it looks any good (quality of print etc)!

I reckon that it will prompt people to ask "omg what happened to that poor guinea pig?" and then I could actually tell them what happens if people buy from a petshop for their kid, kid doesnt want pet anymore, pet ends up in a hutch at the bottom of the garden...

you know what I mean. And it wont come over as me giving people a lecture, because they were the ones asking the question ;-)

Heh, I can just see a gang of you guys going round with tshirts like that in your local P@Home ^_^

I like the idea but i hate the picture, i find it offensive and would be really upset if i saw one being worn in public for my children to see, i also get upset when they do the animal cruelty stands in the high street showing pictures of animals suffering, in fact it makes me down right angry that they are showing these pictures where young Innocent eyes can see them.

Children have enough to deal with just growing up without the horrors of animal cruelty being waved under there nose!

OMG i have just gone off on one sorry but i do feel strongly about both subjects, people should be made to sit up and pay attention, but the pic :-\

I see your point... but I wonder if it is actually beneficial to young children to be aware of what it is that can happen to animals. Example: My sister took her two boys to the animal shelter to help pick another cat. I think they must have been about five years old. They came across a room that had deformed little kittens in that were meowing heartbreakingly, and also when they were waiting in the entrance hall there was two women who brought in a cat, saying they had decided they wanted to keep rabbits from now on. :tickedoff: Also they wittnessed a kitten being brought back, it had only gone to the new owners 2 weeks ago, and the state it came back in! Anyway, they picked their new cat, and on the way back home the boys were very quiet. And when my sis asked the older one what he was thinking about, he said "When I am older, I am going to buy a house with a HUGE garden, and all the animals that people dont want anymore, can come and live with me!" And we thought it was so sweet... it really must have brought home to him how important it is that people take care of the animals that they are entrusted with.

Some people would probably not take their kids to animal shelters... I mean, even I had to cry sometimes going to our local RSPCA shelter, so yes, it is probably not the right thing for every kid. But I suppose a mum knows how much their kid can handle. On average though, if the kid isnt overly sensitive, I think a certain amount of "exposure" to images of this kind is actually good for them.

I'm in agreement with Piggybaker on this one, as a mother of 4 I do not want my children to be 'exposed' to these kind of images.

I think if some children saw that they would be upset and then parents wouldnt let them have the pets because looking at the guinea pig could maybe send off the 'high vet bill' alarm and I then think that children capable of looking after guineas won't be able to because of their parents.

If you see what I mean, its in a 'round a bout' way, I cant often explain stuff, so much whirs around and just farts out ^-^

I think kids can see worse stuff though on tv/video games ... I don't think the pic is too gruesome, its just a poorly piggy. People have a lot worse such as offensive slogans on their t-shirts, and it is for a good cause. I think if a child was upset then the parent could explain its a poorly guineapig who is now a lot better, etc, so that there is a happy ending. We can't protect children from everything they might see..

I assum that a crtain amount of "shocking" grabs popls attntion th most... as oppos to just a slogan.

For xampl, on of my favourit quots is “Think occasionally of th suffring of which you spar yourslf th sight.†by Albrt Schwitzr. In itslf it is not somthing that maks popl stop an think... a a pictur of on of th suffrings that thy ar in always trying to avoi looking at, an it brings th truth hom alot mor... o you know what I man?

[colorr][siz4]Anyway, os anyboy hav som ias for non-offnsiv tshirts that still bring th mssag across?[/siz]

I think in the right sort of situation it is ok, like an educational visit or pig day. I don't think I would wear it randomly because of the shock factor. :)

Have to look around for quotes. I think it's a great idea! :)

Those are some of my favourites from Cafe Press

A few that I found on Cafe Press that I thought were really good are these:

"Balls are for fetching - neuter your pets" http://www.cafepress.com/cp/browse/store/foreverpets/2552879 (it actually looks really cute)

"Dont breed or buy while homeless pets die" http://www.cafepress.com/cp/browse/store/doghause.224724802

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/browse/store/dogduds.40176997 << this one I really really like

"If you cant afford the vet, you cant afford the pet!" http://www.cafepress.com/buy/cruelty/-/pv_design_details/pg_8/id_10097019/opt_/fpt_/c_666/

different version of the shirt above: http://www.cafepress.com/buy/cruelty/-/pv_design_details/pg_7/id_14990948/opt_/fpt_/c_666/

I have no idea for a slogan but this t-shirt would not upset me or my kids unless we were out eating and then it would put me of my food.
My kids (this is not just my biological son, but step kids, adopted kids and foster kids past and present) would come and ask you why you were wearing that t-shirt, our 5 and 11 year old girls have seen their mum abusing their pet dog, they love it here at our house as if an animal is sick, they help me to nurse the animal better.
The 11 year old keeps asking when can she do some voluntary work, either at an animal shelter or on our local steam railway. Our children knows what abuse is as they have suffered for years at their mothers hands.
I do not wrap them in cotton wool but explain to them every thing has consequences.... but I will not let them watch violent TV programmes, films or watch anything older than their age group, nor allow them to play certain Nintendo games older than their age group, I do censor things in this house but they like going to animal shelters, these children would be willing to give their pocket money to shelters, they like to go back a few weeks later to see how an animals progress is.
Some people may say I would not like my child to see that t-shirt but does this parent also censer what this child views on TV and at the pictures and does this parent ever let their child play computer games/x box/PS2 games which are above their age level which will have violence, sexual reference's or swearing?

The only thing that Emily does that is older than her age group is play Warcraft, but she just runs around with the children on their happily chatting to them all. I don't let her watch films that are too old for her. Peter tried once and I went mad. I remember watching Nightmare on Elm Street and Poltegiest as a 10 year old and it freaked me out! ;D But my parents didnt know at the time!

Everytime Emily sees a pic of an ill pig she wants to know what is wrong, I don't think it would upset her at all but some children are very sensitive and some adults too (like me :D)

I would not like my girls (especially the little ones) to see this t shirt and yes I do censor tv shows and no they do not play non age appropriate video games.

I don't find it offensive as such but I do think that you run the risk of being written off as an "animal rights nutter" when wearing it!

How about;

Feed us; don't breed us!
[add picture of a veggie munching piggie!]
or

Guineas and rabbits don't mix; we like our own company!
[with a cute picture of two snuggling guineas]

or

A guinea pig is for life (That could be 8 years!)
[with any lovely piggie picture!]

Urm, that's all I can come up with right now. I think the cute factor will get people talking more than the shock factor which may just scare them off!

the picture is quiet upsetting, is there another picture which isnt so bad?

I dont find the t-shirt offensive or anything cause at the end of the day its a t-shirt that is up to you what you put on it :D

I personally wouldnt like to wer it myself though :)

I love the slogans that some have come up with, and would be proud to wear one, but as for the pic, could you not get ,,, gosh i can't remember her name the one that is fab at drawing, guinea something had something to do with LJ to draw a pic of a guinea crying?
