Just been on the phone to OOH vets. Appointment for tomorrow morning.

Just found a big ole scab on Crumbys face, under her left eye, she's a scruffball so I only chanced upon it while cuddling her earlier. It's dry but covered in dried blood.

While she was out with mum I went over to her cage and there's little chunks of hair attached to skin that she's pulled out somehow.

Wondering if it's mites? or possibly fungal? I've heard that ringworm starts ont he face.

Vet wasn't too worried as it was dry, clean, not itchy and she's not in any pain when you touch it.

Poor baby, she's lost her best friend 10 days ago and is now poorly :(

The scab is about the size of a 20p :(

Little crumbs :(

Could this be a stress-induced case? If she has just lost her cagemate, perhaps she's been a little low.

Hope it's not ringworm, and all the best for your visit tomorrow x

Best of luck with Crumby at the vet's. Sad for you and Crumby to have this so soon after losing a piggie. Hope it is just stress as the OP said and getting another friend will sort her.

Thanks guys!

I'm crossing my fingers its stress related too! (though I feel a little mean wishing stress upon my baby lol!)

Am at work all day so mum'll be taking her to the vets, will let you know what they say!

Oh no, so sorry to read this. Hope all goes well at the vets tomorrow. Big hugs to you and lots of love to Crumby. x

Thanks guys, the poor little thing.

By the time I'd got up and had a look at her this morning (posted my message before in bed :red lol) she'd got a bloody looking scab above her eye and a scab that looked like a rabbit bite on her neck, though she lives alone @)

Anyhow, mum took her to the vets who were very thorough and they think it's stress induced and that her nails (always seem to be sharp despite numerous filings / cuttings) are a bit sharp and may have cut her, so we're keeping an eye. The vet said a combination of stress and bacteria (though we're not sure where the bacteria necessarily came from!) on a weakened immune system could have caused it.

I sent mum in with a LONG sheet of reasons I thought it was ringworm / other possible causes (eg a burst cyst under her eye, though didn't explain the new cuts this morning!) and the vet was confident that it was not ringworm (YAY!)

We've sent a skin scraping to the lab anyway to see what comes back, it may still be ringworm but that's not what we're treating for at the moment. I'll let you know what it says.

She's had a worming jab and has been treated with Invermectin just in case it is mites (also sent a list of why it could / could not be mites lolol)

I know sending a list sounds stupid lol, but my mum gets a bit embarrassed to question what a vet says, so I just thought I'd present them with all of the symptoms / possible suggestions that I had. Mum just handed it over and she answered all of my points hahaha.

She's not looking any worse this evening, but poor thing, I can't see beyond the scabs on her :(

She's been given a weeks course of Septrin to fight off any infection in case any scabs go nasty, though we're to call out of hours if we notice this and its out of surgery time!

Hopefully she's on the mend, but gosh she's been through it :(

Thanks for all of your kind words and thoughts :)

Poor little one, losing Tiffy must have really stressed her about. Pleased it isn't ringworm. Dont blame you for sending a list to the vets, I'd have done the same. Hope Crumby recovers soon, lots of healing vibes her way x x

I know :( poor little thing :( really not nice for her. Thank you!

Have you heard anything from the lab for Megan? xx

Oh poor baby. She is going through a lot. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Thank you so much :)

She's had a pretty rubbish time recently :( hopefully she'll pick up and we can find her a friend when she's ready, though I'm not sure anyone would replace Tiffy for her, they were so inseparable.

Ohhhhh poor sweetheart, wishing all the best for a speedy recovery xxxxx

Aw, she'd get lots of kisses back too - scabs or no scabs ;)

Haha! That's what I said when I was fussing her yesterday morning haha. Bless her heart.

Thank you x>>!

She's looking quite bright this morning and came over for a cuddle so hopefully she's not feeling too bad!

Forgot to say..

The vet advised some Sudocrem (or as we called it when we were children 'magic cream'! lolol) to put on the scabs to soothe them in case they were itching or sore.

Crumby presented herself for food this morning.... still with big white blobs on her face and smelling of it hehe.

Bless her :))

Ohhhh was just in the kitchen and heard some scratching, then a loud squeal and a pig rushing about the cage in panic.

She's managed to rip the whole scab off the side of her face, it's been oozing blood and it looks so sore, poor little thing was squealing away and twitching about in pain.

She's out on the sofa with us and I've dabbed it with salt water to clean but she's just so miserable (can't say I blame her). Luckily it has cleaned up a bit now, but I just feel so bad :( as soon as it's dry, I'll put some more Sudacrem on it, her fur around it has all come out and what was left was all wet with blood.

She's also been twitching her head repeatedly for a day or so (as if her ears are itchy) so we're taking her back to the vets tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

Poor little thing, she's no trouble but seems to get all the rubbish :( if only they did a dog collar - like the operation ones - for pigs!

Ohh poor little Crumby :(. She sounds like she is having a real rough time of it at the moment. At least she has such a lovely caring owner to look after her, offering lots of cuddles and attention.

My three send healing guinea vibes her way. I really hope she feels better soon xx

Aw thank you for your kind words! I'm really hoping the poor girl is better soon :(

This was what it looked like after a little cleaning...

There's a patch still under her hair (towards her nose) on her face that's all like it too, it goes all down towards her chin but I can't get a proper pic as she flinches and I don't want to stress her more :( there's also a scab above her eye (is just about visible on the pic), one on the back of her neck and a scab on her other ear :( my baby :(

It looks better now but she won't let us near it, understandable :(

i am no expert hun but mine have ringworm at the moment and it looks just like that :(

That's what I think it is still too, thanks!

I'm hoping the skin sample comes back soon, much as I don't want to have to tackle ringworm, I think it looks like it too.. :( poor girl.

I hope yours are back to full health soon :)

Thought I'd revive this thread!

Crumbys skin scrape came back today (FINALLY)

It's NOT ringworm!

Kudos to my vet, she always said it wasn't, I was so sure it was!

It is however a different fungal (Mum didn't think to ask which fungus.. DOH lol) but it's 'highly contagious' I've come out in 2 patches of it which are flaky, itchy and (SORRY TMI...) oozy!

The vet has advised treating it with athletes foot cream!

Tomorrow I'm going into the vets to pick up a printout of the findings (rang and asked for one after mother seemingly didn't really know what was said haha) and I was curious about the fungus itself and what it is, being as I have it too now LOL.

I'm going to take the printout to one of the doctors I work with, she's been so interested in my arm and neck splodges and will give me the lowdown on what it is / is found / how it can be treated effectively. If anyone wants a picture for reference, I can post one but they are quite grim!

Will report back with the name etc of the fungus!

So gross D:

Hope you and Crumby get better soon x

Thank you guys :)

I have the report in my hand! It says....

Fungal Culture: Trichophyton mentagrophytes isolated rolleyes

I have no idea what that equates to LOL!

Which cream has the vet advised using? Those containing Terbinafine are the more effective against this fungal infection.
