Hello, had one of my pigs back and forth to vets and now another problem, a scab on his bottom lip.

Bit of history: he had dental work back in April, and a couple months after when feeding him I noticed pale coloured "gunk" in the corner of his mouth and coating his front teeth. After eating one bit of veg, it just disappeared. Since then I noticed a tiny scab on mouth which was gone the day after. Shortly after this, my other boy and him had a fight and he ended up at vets with a small wound on his top lip which was successfully treated with antibiotics.

Fast forward a month from this, and I've noticed a large beige scab hanging from his bottom lip on one side, along with another small one. This wasn't there yesterday. I inspected it, pulled gently and it's as if it's fused to his skin. He's bright as a button as always, eating fine, pooing and full of life.

Any idea what this could be? I don't feed fruit so don't think it's acid causing sores, and I think if it was fungal or bacterial wouldn't my other pig have it? Tried to get a picture but not easy to get a decent one.

Thank you!

It is difficult to say what it is, so you may want to see your vet.

Tomatoes can also cause cheilitis (lip infection); it is not transmittable. some piggies are more susceptible to it than others.

Thank you, yeah I totally understand that.

Whatever it is, it was still there this morning, but it's come off now as I've checked on him. This has happened before. Not sure how it's come off as I couldn't remove it!

I don't feed tomatoes or any of the foods that cause cheilitus. I'm not sure whether I need to be worrying really.
