i noticed yesterday my guinea had a slightly white crusty eye. I couldnt get to the vet today as I was at a funeral. I've booked to see the vet tomorrow . He's an elderly piggie aged 8 years old! He's eating well and acting pretty normal but I have bought both pigs in tonight to be in the warm and dry as it's a bit wet outside
Should I Bath his eye or wait to see the vet?
 
If there is no other symptoms it could be older age and just not keeping himself as clean, I had this a couple of times with Peter as he aged but definitely well worth getting him checked over to make sure there is nothing underlying causing problems

Milky white crusts are dried cleaning fluid and nothing to worry about. Translucent white crusts are from the watery fluid that is excreted from an irritation or non-ulcerating injury (can be something stuck under the lid, but may require a vet trip).
 
I hope so , he's eating but he's all fluffed up so that I decayed to me he's unwell?
Off to the vet in two hours fir appointment .
I've been worried all day thinking to will worse when I get home . Tried for an earlier appointment but it would be with a vet that doesn't deal with guinea pigs so thought I would wAit till early eve
 
This is his eye, so I'll know more at 5.45 pm
I've had a horrendous week and this has just added to my anxiety levels

Best have him checked out by a good vet. It may or may not be related to the eye. Older piggies can have their off days when the body is no longer working optimally. But a grand old age anyway!

It looks perfectly normal to me, but a vet can find out with a special dye whether there is any damage to the eye surface.
 
Yes he's a good age ... I love them so much !
He does have on and off days like humans as they get older . I did wonder if it's mites?

Rather unlikely. Puffing up in my own experience is generally related to internal pain.
