I was just cleaning Forrest's bum tonight (as you do with long haired boys), and I noticed what was like a crusty bogie (sorry) in one of his nostrils.

He is a rescue piggy and I've only had him since Saturday.

None of my other pigs have ever had this.

Eating and drinking fine.

Any suggestions?

Firstly i would contact the rescue to ask if there is any history of anything with him, secondly to ask if any other piggies are in the same position.

But you need to act quick, this is not a good sign, either way he needs to see a vet ASAP.

Is he eating, drinking? xx

I would have him checked by a vet. The stress of moving home can lower the immune system.

I've been researching online and worried it could be a uri.
He did move in AND was subjected to being bathed on his first day. Really yesterday was the first day he looked relaxed so he has been under stress.

Thank, I will take him tomorrow.

Yes eating and drinking fine.

He is on fleece now, was hay and newspaper I think at Windwhistle.
Next change he will be on megazorb, then fleece, and so on.

Hi Deb,

Have texted Alice to ask. Will get back to you when she gets back to me. Unfortunately I am at the rescue fairly irregularly so don't have knowledge of all the piggies histories.

Glad him and Pop are still getting on x

I'm fairly certain it's nothing serious, he seems absolutely fine. I'm going to weigh him now so I can start keeping a track on his weight, it's just I've never seen it before.

Been to the vet with Forrest this evening. I went to my normal vet instead of one where the vets profile on their website indicates small animal experts. I saw the main man there, and it turns our he is a bit of a piggie lover and even the receptionist knew what she was talking about as she keeps them too.
Anyway, he is happy it is not a URI but actually a little scabby bit from a nip, there is a similar bit on his lip. He says they look about 5 days old which ties in to when I bought him home. He said it could be a scratch from transit, or a little bite but nothing to worry about. Forrest & Pop were watched like hawks for the first 36 hours, I even slept on the sofa, and I saw no evidence of biting, certainly no full on fights.
To ensure no infection he gave him a shot of Baytril and 3 made up syringes of 0.1ml to give over the next 3 days.

So glad it's not a URI!

When I got home I was worried when I put Forrest back in that it would be like 'the first time together' but they got together in the same pigloo ^)

Great news! Hopefully, your boys will settle down happily now.
