Junior Guinea Pig
Hi All
So heres the story, basically Bellas has had issues with her eyes on / off since ive had her.
I went straight to the vets after noticing they had looked bad again, got some drops and it seemed to have cleared up... A week later they looked irritated again (just watery like she had been crying)
This went on for about 3 weeks... went back again as i heard her squeaking whilst going to the loo. mentioned the eyes again and she gave me some different drops she said should help. She then said it could be the heating that is causing them to get irritated / dry out? Could this be?
I have been using my heater for a while now it feels like. She said i do seem to always come back around the winter time.
I just know how complex guinea pigs can be...
She is also crying when going to the toilet, and has quite soft / pointed poos... Ive noticed some poops are half black and half light brown.
Ive not actually noticed any poo in the area she usually goes in (Fleece) which is strange. maybe shes going in a diff area of the cage where the hay is and i cant notice it as much?
She said it could be the start of bladder sludge / stones but felt her bladder and she didnt squeak in pain or seem uncomfortable.
We live in a very hard water area but i used bottled water for them, BUT ive recently started soaking the lettuce under the tap. could that have caused an issue?
Anyway she suggested i put blackcurrant juice or apple juice in her water to encourage drinking but ive also heard thats not a good idea.
I give gem lettuce or round lettuce when i can find any, if not romaine (ive been told romaine is fairly high in calcium though! so try to avoid as much as possible but sometimes the shops only have certain ones
) Cucumber and a mixture of peppers regularly.
As a treat they have carrots / blueberrys / apple / banana but only very occasionally.
Does anyone have any insight on what i should do next? I'm going back next Thursday for a checkup. Just want to make sure I'm doing whats best for her as i lost a girl recently to stones so I'm terrified of losing her as well =(
Ive also found a vets in Welwyn garden city, recommended on your vet locator (but the address was wrong btw!) Which ill try out if my current vet keeps failing me.
I do sometimes feel they are not 100% clued up even though they are exotic vets.
edit: Her weight is exactly the same and shes eating / drinking fine.
Sorry for the essay! TIA!
