Piglett

Hello,

I am new here so need a bit of advice. I have just been given 2 baby pigs off a friend, think they are about 6 months old - they don't like being caught but will sit still(ish) when they are on my knee. How do I know if they are happy or scared? Sometimes they grind their teeth, other times they run and snuggle up to my neck.

How do I know if they are happy and what can I do to relax them?

Hiya. Congratulations on getting your new piggies. Check out this link from the care section, it is quite helpful. Guineas are naturally skittish until they feel very comfortable with their surroundings and owners. Patience is needed. Once you have their trust, you will find them wonderful pets. There is also advice in the photos and stories section about how to post photos. Would love to see some piccies. Good luck, xx

Thank you for your help. :)

I don't have any pictures just now but will get some. :)

Hi! Welcome on here - it sounds like your piggies are rather shy.

Be patient and gentle, and they will relax once they have been able to settle and get used to you. With some that haven't been handled much before, it may take some weeks.

Here is a link to what best to feed them, as there are lots of wrong ideas around! http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=37030

Make sure that your piggies have plenty of space - are they boys? At that age they will need all the space they can get.
