I have a lady come in once a month yo do my guinea pigs nails as they are curling under. My eyes are not very good to do it. If the monthly nail trims are not successful over time is there another way to keep them from curling more? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

🙂

How old are your piggies? Older piggies tend to have more curly nails than younger piggies. My boarder trims my piggies nails when they go there on holiday. Thea is 7 and her nails are a nightmare to cut and they are quite curly, Bramble is 1 and she's far to wriggly for my liking and Misty is 2 and if the boarder is doing the other 2 she might as well do a third.

One of my rescue boys came to me with very curly nails. He was about 4.5 at the time and not fond of nail clipping. I’ve found that trimming a little very regularly helps but they’ll always be curly now. I appreciate how hard it is to cut curly nails particularly when eyesight is not so good. I’ve tried a headtorch and a magnifying glass (on my head 🤣) but the least stressful way I found for my piggies is trimming maybe a couple of nails at a time over a few days regularly rather than doing all in one attempt monthly when they’re arguably longer and more curly. Food is a necessity. Alternatively an extra pair of hands - one to hold wriggler and one to trim.
