Hi all, can I please have some vibes for my lovely Curly.

100_3742.jpg

The poor boy has been weeing blood for a couple of days and in addition to this he has a cyst over his eye.:0 I started him on a course of Septrin for the bladder troubles and we've been to see our vet this afternoon who is going to have him in for an x-ray on Friday morning just to check if there are any stones lurking anywhere.:( She aspirated the cyst with a fine needle and some thick curd like muck came out of it, she is happy to watch and wait at the moment, but it looked just like a spot with a tiny hole in the top.

It's just typical that we go away next Friday for two weeks and my parents have agreed to piggy sit for me. Tetley, Curly's dad was unwell last year when we went away and my Dad had to have him pts in the end as he was taken really poorly after bladder stone surgery. These little chaps certainly pick their moments.

On the plus side my vet has offered to look after Curly (and his pal Herbie) for me (at her home!) if she finds anything sinister on Friday, but please keep everything crossed for a happy outcome.

Lots of Healing Vibes!

We all have everything crossed for you and Curly, and hope he has a swift recovery.

I think some people would kill to have a vet as nice as yours!

Mega healing vibes from my troop

Really hope its a positive outcome....he is just lovelyx)

Sounds like you have a great vet too which helps! Keep us posted :)

I had a sow who had bladder stones and she had surgery at the age of 6 to remove them and the operation was successful. I'm sure your piggie will be fine :)

Loads of good luck for the little love.

My Riff has bladder problems and bleeding at the moment too and sends gentle wheeks.

Thanks for the support guys, it really helps knowing that there are some like minded piggy nuts about who don't dismiss piggy health issues!

I'm sorry to hear Riff is having problems at the moment Lucinda, Curly sends his condolences:( and hopes the little guy is feeling better soon.

Unfortunately we are all too familiar with bladder stones as Curly's dad had a huge one last year followed by a build up of crystals only days after having had the stone removed. The trouble with boys and stones is that their "plumbing" causes all sorts of added issues so I'm keeping everything crossed that Curly only has a build up of sludge and not a stone like his dad. RIP Tetley.8...

Will keep you posted.

aw so sorry to hear about Curly, its so nice to hear that your vet is being so great, makes me feel all the better for going over to her with mine! I plan to take both in when I get baby Max this weekend, for a check up.

All the best and keep up updated on his progress.

Oh sorry to hear about Curly ... he looks lovely.
I am keeping everything crossed for you for Friday and while you are away.

Yeap, piggies have a habit of doing things unexpectedly and at the wrong moment.

Bladder stones are a problem. I have had a few with this problem, all from the same previous owner, I have read that it is hereditary :...

Sorry I haven't updated you all, but we have had a very hectic weekend and I haven't made it to the pc.

Unfortunately Curly does have a bladder stone, his x-ray on Friday showed a reasonably small stone, but it's too large for him to pass. He is still happy in himself, eating well etc., although he has lost an ounce in weight and is obviously uncomfortable and still passing a little blood.

Please all send healing vibes as he is at the vet this morning to have surgery to remove the stone.:... Herbie has gone with him to keep him company, but I am so worried about my poor boy. The girls and I are due to go to a friends this morning, but I think it could be a long few hours - we won't hear anything until 1 - 2pm. Please keep everything crossed for Curly, will try to update you all later.

sending hugs and kisses to Curly, I'm sure everything will be fine.

let us know how it goes. xx

Thank you to everyone for your warm wishes and vibes. I have just got back from the vets with Curly and Herbie.

Both boys are very quiet and poor Curly has a very large shaved area on his tummy (mind you he is extremely hairy and fuzzy normally so I think this makes it look worse!). His op went well and Nicola said that apart from the stone his bladder looked healthy with not too much scaring etc.

He has had a metacam pain relief jab so seems quite happy, if a little quieter than usual. I have just given the boys some home grown salad leaves and much to my relief Curly has tucked into his share.:)x)

I have got to increase his Septrin until the end of the week and I have metacam to give him should he need it and we then go back to see Nicola on Thursday (as long as we don't have any problems in the meantime). The boys will then spend the next two weeks being spoilt rotten by her whilst I am on holiday with my family.:)

Glad that Curly is back home and that everything went well. Hope he's feeling better soon x

So glad the op went well, thats a relief!

Keep us posted and fingers crossed for full recoveries all round :)

All our love and healing wheeeeeeeeks for little Curly x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>x>>
Duke sends lots of manly ones too xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Pleased to report that Curly has had a good day today following yesterdays surgery.

He is tucking into his veggies like a little trooper and didn't want to sit still to have his Septrin this evening, which is a good sign - getting back to the old wriggly Curly.x)

His poor little tummy is very bare, but the incision is looking neat, clean and healthy - fingers crossed it continues to stay like that.

Thank you all once again for your support, it means a lot to us. :)

Curly's bladder stone - update

Just thought I would bring you up to date regarding Curly and his bladder. After his op he recovered really well, he and Herbie had a lovely holiday with Auntie Nicola (our Vet) whilst we were in Devon and he came home looking really well.

Unfortunately last Wednesday he started to pass bloody urine again, although he didn't appear to be in any pain and was quite happy in himself. I started him back on his Septrin and watched him like a hawk. Things took a very bad turn for the worse yesterday (Sun) and the poor little love was obviously in a great deal of pain and was straining to pass any urine. I spoke to Nicola and dosed Curly up with antibiotics, Metacam and started to syringe feed him. He has been into the vets this morning for another x-ray which has shown that he doesn't have any more stones, just what appears to be a thick coating of sludge in his bladder. Nicola has given him a light anaesthetic so that she can put a catheter into his bladder to try to flush the sludge through (poor little boy ).

I have just called the vets and he has come through the procedure well, although he is obviously very sore so Nicola has given him some pain meds by injection to make him more comfortable. It never seems to end for this poor little boy. He will be ready for me to collect later this afternoon.

Nicola is going to send off the stone she removed several weeks ago (which thankfully I kept) to see if she can get it analysed i.e. find out what minerals etc. it is made up of. If we can get a little more information we can hopefully adjust his diet/meds to try to stop this happening again.

Will keep you all posted.

Awww poor Curly, wishing him a speedy recovery

Sending hugs and xoxoxoxo

Awwww, I'm sorry to hear that Curly has more problems. Fingers crossed the stone doesn't show anything nasty and hopefully he's home soon getting loads of tlc xx

I'm so sorry he is poorly again.

Riff had a stone removed last Thurs -was about a centimetre long. I too was wondering about the mineral make up of the stone.

Anyway, Riffy and I are sending lots of love to you and Curly. x

Aww I'm sorry that he is poorly :( But my best wishes that he makes a speedy recovery! xoxo

Thanks for the support guys I really need it at the moment. We lost Curly'sdad during the summer of 2007 in very similar circumstances, bladder stone removed, in his case crystals appeared after a few days followed by total blockage and we had to put him to sleep - so you can see why I am so worried about Curly.

Have collected the boys from the vet and Curly is still quite sleepy, but he has had several pain killing injections so I suspect this might have something to do with it, plus of course he has had a GA. His breathing also sounds a bit rattly from time to time, it sounds like he needs a good cough. He lay on my lap and ate a little bit of grass and a small piece of lettuce before he let me give him some critical care via a syringe - he must be feeling rough as I normally can't get a syringe anywhere near him.:(

He is now snuggled down under his tunnel on some nice clean, soft vetbed. Thanks again for all the messages, I really appreciate them.

So sorry to hear that Curly isn't too well again at the moment ... love him!

I really hope that his last bit of treatment will make him nice and comfy and fingers crossed that all will be ok xx

Just a quick up date on my little fella.

Thankfully Curly's breathing returned to normal the day after his little "proceedure" although he was still pretty sleepy - I guess it is to be expected considering what the little guy had been through. I am happy to say that he has finally begun to eat his veggies again, albeit a little more slowly than usual and he actually came to the front of his cage to see what I had on offer this morning :). I am still giving him some critical care feeds via syringe to help him along as he has only been picking at his Cavy Cuisine and hay. He seems to be able to pass urine without too much pain at the moment and it is much less pink than it was at the weekend. I've got to continue with the Metacam and Septrin and have introduced cranberry juice at feed times to - which he loves. I managed to find one in Sainsbury's that had no added sugar so that was a result.:) I'm trying to keep his fluid intake up to help wash out any remaining bladder sludge in order to try to avoid another build up like we had on Sunday. In additional to syringing fluids I'm also making sure all his veggies and fresh cut grass are very wet before giving them to him.

Herbie is obviously a little jealous of all the attention Curly is getting. He is not a cuddly pig and generally hangs back a bit when I go to see to the boys. However, he has started to appear at the front of the cage each time I go into the playroom and he LOVES critical care, he is so funny because when I'm feeding Curly he sits on his back legs/bottom like a dog begging and waits for the odd syringe full of CC! He even sits there with his little mouth open!x) I'll have to try to get one of the girls to take a piccie of him.

Thanks again for all the good wishes, fingers crossed poor Curly is over the worst for the time being.
