if a lettuce just says 'curly lettuce' on the packet, what type of lettuce is it? and is it ok for piggies aslong as it's not iceberg lettuce? :)

Mine love curly lettuce (frissee lettuce). They go absolutely mad when I walk up to them with it in my hand, I think they can smell it. I can't get it in their hutch before they are taking from me.

great, that's another thing they can have then! they eat anything really my two, not fussy, except when it comes to courgettes, they don't appreciate finding those in their bowls! :))

I have to laugh how some packaging just says "lettuce" or "curly lettuce". We can tell from looking at it what it is! You know what iceberg looks like, so it's a pretty safe bet that anything that is not iceberg is going to be good.

Mine love lollo rosso, dolce verde, continental, and batavia as well as the usual romaine and round. They don't get lettuce as much as they used to - it made up the base of their veggie diet for so long, but now it's part of a wider diet. They still love their romaine/dolce verde at breakfast!

A question from a colleague at work. Is iceburg lettuce bad for them, and if so why please?

The two things I have heard about iceberg:

1) "Crunchy water" - no nutritional value;
2) High in nitrates

Not sure what effect the nitrates would have on piggies, nor the levels of nitrates in other foods for comparison, but it is one reason given widely for avoiding iceberg. Other lettuces are fine to feed.
