Hi,

I am having a double 8ft x 2ft hutch built and I’m looking for a cover for it (one of those insulated ones with the silver foil doesn’t need rainproof as not outside). They keep it nice and cool in the shed in summer and warm in winter. However no company seems to make them that big. 6ft is the biggest I have seen. I have checked with Scratch and Newton and they don’t do custom sizes unfortunately.

Does anyone know of anywhere we can order a custom insulated cover?

I have thought about stapling the foil insulation to it but I’d rather not staple into a brand new hutch and I like to be able to get it off easily for cleaning purposes too.

You can make it yourself with the foil but you don’t need to staple it to the hutch.

I made mine by taping (with the special insulation tape) all the sides together but I made a lip of foil slightly over the front of the hutch (coming down the front a bit - not enough to impede the door but enough to hold it in place). Mine never fell off.

What I would add though is that having a foil cover on the hutch in summer did exactly nothing to keep it cool.
My whole shed is insulated with silver foil but it doesn’t stop it from getting dangerously hot.

That’s a great idea thank you for the advice👍

I have no idea how but my shed is a miracle and never exceeds the outdoor temperature and the thermometer inside the shed is a good few degrees cooler than the general shed temperature. I thought they’d have to come inside most of summer but they only do on really really hot days so it’s a miracle really! I assumed the hutches stayed cooler than even the shed because they have hutch snuggles on them but maybe not!

Do you have a photo of your DIY cover? I’m having a go at making one this evening and could use some inspiration 🤣

I'm not sure that I do - there were changes in the shed when my two old boys passed away so the hutch isn’t in use any more with the two youngsters
