I feel like a bad piggy mummy  i was sat on the floor in front of the piggy cage and was getting some hay out of my piggies bottom when he suddenly leapt from my arms and tried to jump into his cage. He did jump into it only he bashed his head against the plastic as he flew. Now he jas a cut just below his nose. Its only very tiny but it was bleeding a little. Ive checked his teeth and they look ok and hes now munching on hay (so I'm obviously more upset about it than him!) And ive very gently bathed the cut with warm salt water. Is their anymore i can do for him or do cuts heal ok on piggies? I lost one of my boys a few weeks ago so just a little paranoid at the min!

Please don't feel bad. Accidents happen.

Bathing the wound with warm salt water is good and the cut should heal by itself. Just keep an eye on him and make sure he continues to eat normally but it doesn't sound like he has damaged his teeth. Have you seen him eat anything hard such as nuggets, carrots etc? If he can eat them normally, I wouldn't be too concerned but if he struggles, a visit to the vet may be in order.

I'm sorry for your recent loss

You've done everything you can - well done.

Please keep an eye on his teeth - especially the front ones (incisors) . Sometimes (in a very small number of cases) a trauma like this can weaken the front teeth and lead to them breaking off in a couple of weeks time (but don;t worry they will grow back).
However until they do grow back, the piggie may be unable to use his "grabbers" properly - which means he may need to be given finely sliced veggies or perhaps a bit more supportive care to actually manouvre food into his mouth

I would suggest you weigh him daily and if he starts to drop weight then come back and we can help you with the type of supportive care etc you may need.
In the meantime - I'm keeping my paws crossed that his small cut will heal and that will be the last of this incident (which it probably will!)

Thanks so much for your replies! He has been eating nuggets so i think his teeth are ok. Hes got a little scab on his nose now! Hes sat quietly on my knee at the min so i must be forgiven too!

Sorry for your recent loss. Just reading this thread and wondering, why do they want to leap like we are squeezing the life out of them?! One of mine tries jumping all the time.

So sorry for your loss. Don't blame yourself. Hope that he gets better soon. Can't offer any more advice.
