I have had my piggies and their nails need cutting now should I take them to the vet or have a go myself? Are there any special nail cutters for piggies?

I would advise watching your vet do it first. Guinea pig nails have quicks in them so you have to be very careful not to cut to low, with black claws it can be difficult to see were the quick is. A good way to keep the nails in check is to trim a little and often

Here is a link to some information on Nail Trimming from guinea lynx a great medical website for piggies http://www.guinealynx.info/nails.html

We used to use human big toe nail clippers but have recently started using special nail trimmers like these http://www.pet365.co.uk/products/Ro...Trimmer.html?gclid=CKL9h57zkbkCFeXMtAod8TAAxA

But I would certainly advise getting a vet to show you how to do it first. I still hate trimming after 7 years :))

Yes, I'll second that. Book them in to the vets to see how it's done. Then you'll have more confidence to do it yourself. With Black nails try to gauge the same distance as the white nails but if in doubt just clip a little, often
