There are a few sections in the book on guinea pig care that I am not sure what to do about photos? I would love to have photos of a CUY but rescues just don't reply to my emails?!
Does anyone here have a cuy that could feature in my book? I would love to have photos to show the size comparison between a normal and a cuy guinea pig.

There is also the page which talks about pet stores and things that you shouldn't use for animals. I would like to have photos of guinea pig exercise wheels, balls and others to show with a big fat red cross ;)

A little bit like this is what I had in mind ..... (see attachment). I don't really want to buy them just so I can photograph them! :D

I am also at loss what to use for the article I wrote about boars fighting and what you should do? Ideally I would love to have photos of boars yawning, mounting etc. but that's a bit difficult to achieve! :)) I tried drawing the pictures, but its not really the same and I'm not that good at drawing guinea pigs

When I google royalty free images of cuys, I get images of roasted guinea pigs :yikes::vom:

I was sure many many months ago probably years now someone had written on the forum about guys and how they were being introduced to the UK. Obviously not a great idea. Might be good to do a search.

I've done a huge lot of research for my book ;) I understand that they shouldn't be sold as pets because they are very skittish, are prone to health problems and grow twice the size of an average guinea pig owing to that they were bred for meat. Thats why it is very important to be able to recognize one as they shouldn't be kept by an inexperienced pet owner.

forgive dimbo here, what is a cuy piggy? I've come across it before but can't remember!

I think I have pictures from a fight, that if I can find you could use to show what bites you can get. I have 4 single boars because of fall outs and fighting, so might be able to answer any questions from my experience?! What happened, what I've done about it etc..

A cuy is a particular type of guinea pig that is bred for food in Peru. They are far larger then the typical guinea pig and are very difficult to handle owing to their size and skittishness.

The problem originated when pet stores started importing them and selling them as pets! Rescues had huge guinea pigs that were so difficult that they couldn't be adopted.

Pictures would be very helpful!

This is a cuy! You're not a dimbo! I didn't know about them either until recently! ;)

Ah thank uou. I only ask as reds (apparent) mummy was absolutely humongous compared to all the other piggies! And I just wondered if red would be one? If so I could have helped.

I have a cuy picture :D it is not my cuy, but I took a picture of it when I was at a Cuy Awareness/Fundraiser event over the summer. I will look for it and send it to you

Thats fantastic! It certainly pays to ask :D

Is it okay to use stock images from amazon? I could use the image of an exercise ball from there and that would be problem solved if it was okay? Someone suggested it :)

I have actually seen an advert for Cuys here in the UK recently - the advert was for experienced owners and it warned that they do not always make good pets. I am in two minds about the whole Cuy thing. I'd love to see one, but I know in the USA they often end up in shelters because owners cannot provide properly for their needs (as you have already mentioned). Not saying it can't be done, but it's not so easy.
However, they are spreading, so you may see more photos of them in the future. :hmm:

I have a photo of my guinea pig Arthur after he attacked Romano if you'd like that.

I doubt I'll ever get to see one in New Zealand, unless someone I know flies one down ;)

I don't think so =)

He bit Romano all over the back (many bite marks) and then Romano bit him on the snout and thats what I saw and seperated them. It was the vet who told me about the bites all over Romano afterwards. Arthur (photo) was the instigator.

I have a hamster ball if you want a plain photo. I'm afraid you'd have to do the cross yourself as I have no idea how to do that!

The Wee Companions rescue is going to send me some cuy photographs! :woot:

I'm just wondering if you found it yet :) The rescue has sent me some photos so I've been putting the pages together and I have room for another photograph ;)

NEED a picture of an exercise ball if anyone has one! Even a hamster ball will do! ;)

I had the exact same problem with my Wookie, he bit Sabian all over his back and one day had a bite on his nose. I had to separate them and he now lives in a 5x4 playhouse with Scruffy! He seems to be ok with the extra space but he's a bit of a challenge, has nipped me a couple of times too!

I was about to suggest trying them! When I got my first piggie I met with a lady from a cavy club and saw her pigs. They were absolutely huge! It didn't click at the time, but I wonder if they were Cuy or part Cuy...
